Requirements
  • Knowledge of complex rigging, heavy rigging, changing crane booms and cables, electrical safety, ladder and scaffold safety, lifting machinery, wire rope, basic rigging, fire prevention, sizing chokers, load charts, cutting torches, and basic blueprint reading.
  • Ability to learn and understand work-related safety hazards and safely and effectively use or operate work-related tools and equipment.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds, with occasional loads up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive use of the hands, arms, and legs, with adequate hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to hear, comprehend, and speak sufficiently to perform work safely.
  • Ability to perform sedentary to heavy work and operate electric, gas, and pneumatic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on steel or wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Ability to frequently grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
  • Ability to perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, and lifting.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, including muddy conditions, loose rock, and loose or soft sand.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when required and tolerate adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and supervision.
  • Reading and writing comprehension sufficient to give and receive directions and follow safety policies.
  • Ability to use mathematics and complete calculations.
  • Ability to work at varying tempos, concentrate amid distractions, and make decisions.
  • Attention to detail, including the ability to remember, examine, and observe details.
Responsibilities
  • Load, transport, and unload materials, and assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to the weight and size of the load.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and materials.
  • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
  • Assist other craft workers as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Obtaining a certification from a nationally recognized organization such as NCCER is highly recommended.
