Requirements
  • Three to five years of experience in underground construction.
  • Ability to read maps, plans, and blueprints and convey this information to others.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper operation and safety standards of heavy equipment.
  • One to three years of experience operating heavy machinery, including loaders, dozers, backhoes, and excavators.
  • Traffic Control Maintainer certificate.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, or eligibility and willingness to obtain the required license for the position.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees.
  • Willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds as needed, with or without assistance.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus, with higher wage scales applying to CDL holders.
  • OSHA 10 certificate.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee the work of crews depending on job size.
  • Perform all duties of an Underground Laborer and Operator.
  • Train new laborers and operators on proper processes and job functions.
  • Submit daily timesheets for crew members and themselves.
  • Ensure that all employees follow job-site safety processes and protocols.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Restore and landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, and other temporary structures.
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Identify utilities in the trench or bore path.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Ensure that equipment is cleaned and maintained.
  • Maintain a clean and safe jobsite.
  • Follow all on-site safety procedures.
  • Report incidents to the Supervisor or Safety Manager immediately.
  • Contact the permitted city inspector.
  • Submit daily timecards for crew members.
  • Submit daily pre-trip inspections and job hazard analyses.
  • Operate all heavy equipment safely.
  • Complete monthly assigned safety lessons.
  • Manage the crew and ensure productivity.
  • Prepare as-built documentation and submit completed prints.

  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the underground industry.
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative when needed.
  • Ability to develop an understanding of daily maintenance for underground equipment.
  • Ability to perform all underground procedures and duties.
  • Ability to travel.

Percheron, a 41-year-old company, has been acquired by Quanta Services. The deal represents a significant milestone for Percheron, which expects the acquisition to expand its resources, strengthen capabilities and create new growth opportunities. Quanta Services acquires Davenport's Tri-City Group, adding 2,800 employees to 69,000-strong workforce

Quanta Services has acquired Davenport-based Tri-City Group, a family of contractors and engineering companies specialising in electrical construction, technology solutions and industrial services. The acquisition was completed in the fourth quarter of 2025. Tri-City Group will retain its name, brand and leadership team, including the Palmer Family. The company, which has operated since 1895, employs over 2,800 people and has completed projects in 46 states, two US territories and six countries. Houston-based Quanta Services, which employs approximately 69,000 people, is a specialised contracting company providing integrated engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services for electric power, renewable energy and underground utility infrastructure. The acquisition strengthens Quanta's electrical infrastructure services capabilities across key US regions.
