Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Convert various file formats into accessible Microsoft Word documents using OCR software, math editing software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Closely follow provided instructions for converting files into accessible formats according to student needs, best accessibility practices, and WCAG 2.0 Web Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Create alternative text descriptions for images that are accessible with screen reader technology.
  • Convert math content into accessible formats using Math Type and OCR software.
  • Format accessible documents in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Convert other course materials as instructed by the Document Conversion Coordinator.
  • Upload prepared accessible files to Box in a timely manner.
  • Complete assigned tasks within deadlines communicated by the Document Conversion Access Coordinator.
  • Monitor online workspaces for new assignments; retrieve course content from Learning Management Systems.
  • Log completed work at the end of each shift/assignment.
  • Carefully review and proofread converted course materials for accuracy and accessibility.
  • Review feedback on assignments, then edit and resubmit them according to the feedback.
  • Ensure that converted files retain all content and meaning of the source files.
  • Communicate with other Document Conversion Specialists and the Document Conversion Access Coordinator tasks; be responsive to all communications regarding deadlines, updates, and work requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Complete training on various digital accessibility topics.
  • Attend scheduled virtual team meetings.
  • Assist with other tasks related to document accessibility as needed.
  • Provides administrative support for a leader. Stays informed of activities relating to programs and initiatives, apprising the leader of issues when deemed necessary. Coordinates information flow from leader's office.
  • Prepare special reports and summaries, assists in managing daily operation of the office, and may assist in developing administrative goals and policies. Maintains the leader's calendar.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with university-level mathematics.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.0 digital accessibility standards and best practices
  • Experience using ABBYY FineReader or similar OCR software
  • Experience with MathType or similar equation-editing software
  • Experience describing complex visual content.
  • Practical experience with creating accessible digital content.
  • Knowledge of PC operating systems.
  • Ability to do detailed computer work for extended periods.
  • Ability to format in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to proofread and review formatting of university-level documents.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and prioritize work based on complexity and time requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks.
  • Proactive problem solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proactive in reporting issues in order to determine solutions.
