Requirements
  • The individual must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience and must hold a doctorate in nursing from an accredited College or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
  • The individual must also hold or be qualified to hold a Nevada Registered Nurse license and if selected applicant is subject to a one-time background check.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
  • Faculty rank will be dependent upon educational credentials, terminal degree, experience, and scholarly achievement. Based on UNLV School of Nursing criteria and review.
  • The senior-level nursing faculty member must possess a record of extensive scholarly achievement (e.g., publications, grant funding as PI)
  • Associate Professor (tenure-track): terminal degree and comprehensive experience and research activity.
  • Associate Professor or Professor (tenured): terminal degree, research activity, and a record of extensive scholarly achievement.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, preferably in nursing or health sciences; experience with faculty development, mentoring, evaluation, and workload management; record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; evidence of effective collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with faculty to establish and pursue professional goals.
  • Create opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, and advancement.
  • Provide guidance on career planning, promotion, and tenure pathways.
  • Oversee the SON Travel Fund and other related resources to ensure fair and equitable support for faculty professional development.
  • Lead orientation programs for new faculty and part-time instructors in collaboration with the other Associate Deans and the Director of Clinical Operations.
  • Hire, orient, and evaluate faculty and part-time instructors to meet academic program needs.
  • Conduct faculty evaluations in partnership with the other Associate Deans and the Dean, ensuring constructive feedback and alignment with School criteria.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify faculty position needs, recruit high-quality candidates, and recommend hiring and appointments to the Dean.
  • Oversee faculty offboarding, ensuring exit processes are completed smoothly, institutional knowledge is captured, and transitions are managed with professionalism and respect.
  • Develop and oversee faculty workload and teaching assignments with transparency and equity.
  • Establish course schedules for undergraduate and graduate programs in collaboration with the other Associate Deans and Dean.
  • Identify and address faculty resource needs, including space allocation and budget management, to support teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Share and discuss course evaluation data each trimester with the other Associate Deans to promote ongoing program improvement.
  • Support a culture of accountability, innovation, and academic excellence across programs.
  • Represent the School of Nursing at university, state, regional, and national levels, as requested by the Dean.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of initiatives that strengthen the faculty experience and elevate the School’s reputation.
