Tandem makes leadership team appointments as it prepares for growth. August 20, 2026 Tandem Bank has implemented a number of changes to its leadership team as part of preparations for its next stage of growth. Simon Bowen has been appointed the digital challenger bank's chief risk officer. He has in excess of 25 years of experience in risk and finance transformation in the UK banking industry and was previously the chief risk officer at Hodge Bank. He has also held roles at Lloyds Banking Group and Principality Building Society. The bank has also added Natalie Trist as its director of credit risk strategy. She has over 25 years' experience in credit leadership, having worked across HSBC, Close Brothers, Secure Trust Bank and Vanquis Lending Group. Bowen commented: "Tandem has established itself as one of the most credible purpose-led digital banks in the market. I'm delighted to be joining the executive team and look forward to playing my part in what comes next." Tandem Bank has appointed Kevin Purcell as its chief people officer, having previously held the same role at Secure Trust Bank. He brings over three decades of senior people leadership experience in the financial services space. In his new role at the bank, he succeeds Catherine Diamond, who served as the firm's chief people officer for two years. Purcell said: "You can tell a lot about a business from the recognition it earns from its own people. Back-to-back Sunday Times awards showcase what Tandem is building, and I am looking forward to taking that agenda further as we scale." Internal appointments. As well as these appointments, Tandem Bank has also made internal changes, with Darvish Heshejin having been appointed managing director of home improvement lending, succeeding Julian Nutley. Previously the director of strategy and proposition, Heshejin's new role will involve scaling the firm's home improvement lending proposition as it nears £1bn in green lending, alongside leading the unveiling of its revamped marketplace proposition. From next month, Nutley will become a senior adviser to the firm, supporting Heshejin and the home improvement lending team. Nutley is the founder of Allium Money - a green lending business acquired by Tandem Bank in 2020 - and has been central to the evolution of Tandem Bank's home improvement lending proposition. Nutley added: "It has been a privilege to help build Tandem's home improvement lending business into what it is today. I'm incredibly proud of what the team has achieved and I'm looking forward to continuing to support Darvish as he takes it from strength to strength." In addition, Tom Ellmers, who has been at Tandem Bank for over four years, will expand his executive role as managing director of deposits and digital experience. The bank said this will create a single leadership structure across its app, brand, corporate communications, deposits, customer experience and digital marketing teams. Neil Chandler, CEO of Tandem, commented: "Tandem is entering a defining and important next stage of growth, backed by a clear investor-supported strategy and with ambition to scale its impact, and continued investment in sustainable finance. These changes bring together its risk, people, lending, and digital teams under leaders with a proven track record, as Mortgage Solutions invest in the next phase of its growth. "I want to thank Julian for everything he has built in home improvement lending and I'm glad he will continue supporting Darvish and the team as he moves into his new role. I'd also like thank Catherine for the lasting impact she has had on our culture and our people. I am delighted to welcome Simon, Kevin, and Natalie to the business, and to see Darvish and Tom take on these expanded roles."
Tandem bank strengthens leadership team for next stage of growth. * People Moves * 20.08.2026 09:23 am Digital challenger bank Tandem has announced a series of senior leadership changes as it accelerates a new investor-backed strategy focused on sustainable finance - helping customers live more sustainably and build everyday financial resilience. The changes are supported by significant investment across Tandem's executive team, Board, digital capability and customer proposition as the bank enters its next stage of growth. Risk and People leadership Simon Bowen joins Tandem as Chief Risk Officer. An ACMA-qualified finance leader, Simon brings over 25 years of risk and finance transformation experience across the UK banking sector, most recently as CRO at Hodge Bank as well as senior roles at Lloyds Banking Group and Principality Building Society. Additionally, Tandem strengthens its wider risk leadership with the appointment of Natalie Trist as Director of Credit Risk Strategy, bringing over 25 years' credit leadership experience across HSBC, Close Brothers, Secure Trust Bank and Vanquis Banking Group. Simon commented, "Tandem has established itself as one of the most credible purpose-led digital banks in the market," he said. "I'm delighted to be joining the executive team and look forward to playing my part in what comes next." Kevin Purcell also joins as Chief People Officer, bringing more than 30 years of senior people leadership experience across financial services. Formerly CPO at Secure Trust Bank, Kevin also served as CPO at Universities Superannuation Scheme and has held senior HR leadership roles at Barclays Investment Bank and UBS Investment Bank. Kevin succeeds Catherine Diamond, following two years as Chief People Officer, during which Tandem was recognised as a Sunday Times Best Place to Work for two consecutive years and most recently Certified(TM) Great Place to Work(R). Kevin said, "You can tell a lot about a business from the recognition it earns from its own people. Back-to-back Sunday Times awards showcase what Tandem is building, and I am looking forward to taking that agenda further as we scale." Home Improvement Lending Tandem has also confirmed further internal changes, including Darvish Heshejin who has been appointed Managing Director of Home Improvement Lending, moving from Director of Strategy and Proposition. He will focus on scaling Tandem's home improvement lending proposition as the bank approaches £1bn in green lending, while also leading the launch of its revamped marketplace proposition. Darvish succeeds Julian Nutley, who is transitioning to a new role from September to become Senior Adviser to Tandem, supporting Darvish and the HIL team. Julian founded Allium Money - the green lending business acquired by Tandem in 2020 - and has played a central role in building Tandem's home improvement lending proposition into one of the most established in the UK market. Julian Nutley said: "It has been a privilege to help build Tandem's home improvement lending business into what it is today. At Board level, Stephen Jones was appointed Chair at the start of 2026 and Clive Kornitzer joined as Independent Non-Executive Director in March 2026.

Tandem hires Turner as southern account manager. Tandem Bank has appointed Lloyd Turner as southern account manager. Turner brings more than 15 years of experience in financial services, including over a decade focused on specialist mortgages. He has previously worked with a range of specialist mortgage brokerages, specialist lenders and high street lenders, giving him experience in sales, underwriting and product teams. In his new role, Turner will work directly with Tandem's intermediary partners across the south, helping brokers access the lender's specialist second charge proposition. Tandem head of sales and distribution Laura Walters says: "We're delighted to welcome Lloyd to the team at a key stage in our growth. His experience and knowledge of the regional broker market make him ideally placed to strengthen existing relationships and help us reach new partners." "This is a growing market, and Lloyd's appointment demonstrates our commitment to enhancing brokers' experience, providing regular contact and faster support, and ensuring Tandem is seen as a partner that is genuinely easy to do business with." Turner adds: "This is a market with real momentum and I'm looking forward to being part of a team that is committed to growing its impact within the industry."
Brookes steps down from Tandem. May 7, 2026 Nigel Brookes, director of second charge sales and distribution at challenger bank Tandem, has taken early retirement, while Laura Walters has been promoted to head of sales and distribution. Steve Beard, Tandem's managing director of mortgages, said Brookes' retirement was "planned" after more than a decade with the business. He said: "On behalf of everyone at Tandem, I'd like to thank Nigel for his huge contribution over the past decade. He has played a central role in building its second charge proposition into what it is today and in shaping its relationships across the broker community. A planned early retirement is thoroughly well-deserved and Mortgagesolutions wish him all the very best for what comes next. "I'm delighted to see Laura step into this role. She brings strong leadership, deep expertise and a clear understanding of both our strategy and our partners. The second charge market is growing and we're growing with it - with a strong team in place, a clear plan and the technology to back it up." Walters has been at Tandem for 13 years, working closely with Beard and Brookes on the second charge business, which is growing strongly - new agreements increased more than 27% year-on-year through 2025 and 2026. She said: "I'm excited to step into this role at such a pivotal moment for Tandem and the second charge market. We've built strong foundations through great tech, strong relationships and real delivery. My focus now is on accelerating that. For brokers, that means faster decisions, smoother journeys and a partner that's easy to do business with. The opportunity here is massive and we're well-placed to make the most of it." Tandem appointed a new CEO, Neil Chandler, in June last year. The bank has moved away from first charge mortgages and focuses heavily on green home improvements. It reported a 40% increase in underlying profit to £24.1m for the 2024 financial year, driven largely by its green lending initiatives.
