Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree Nursing Degree in Nursing
  • Five (5) years' experience as an RN; with a minimum of 18 months experience in Pre-Op/PACU
  • 18 months experience in Pre/PACU management or charge nurse capacity in a clinical and/or hospital position
  • Must be computer literate in Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written

Responsibilities
  • Supervises day-to-day nursing care and operations for Keck Hospital Same day and PACU.
  • Promotes effective communication and working relationships amongst hospital units, department units, hospital staff and department staff.
  • Responsible for selecting and retaining qualified nursing staff Works with the Education Department and Human Resources to ensure that the necessary orientation, training, and continuing education is available to the staff. Leads recruitment and retention activities.
  • Works directly with the Department Chair, Department Division Chiefs, and Management Team on optimizing nursing coverage and care.
  • Displays understanding of governing regulations, Title 22, and JCAHO requirements, defining and maintaining the standards of nursing practice while ensuring consistency with the hospital standards. Contributes to the development and implementation of a unit-based performance improvement program in line with JCAHO, Title 22, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in establishing systems within the departments which support and practice shared governance management philosophy. Contributes to the development of customer service standards and expectations. Assists in establishing methods for monitoring employee, patient and physician satisfaction with the services provided within the department
  • Monitor space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources.
  • Approves day to day deviation from established staffing guidelines based on patient need.
  • Ensures that Optilink is up to date on a daily basis. Flexes staff according to patient acuity, census, and budget guidelines.
  • Approves monthly schedules and advance requests for time off; approves ShiftQuest requests. Consistently applies applicable HR policy & procedure for granting time off and/or adding additional shift requests.
  • Communication to each and every staff member their role in maintaining a high performing unit with regard to quality.
  • Communication to each and every staff member the outcomes of quality monitoring; draws all staff in to analyze and change practice as necessary.
  • Collects and delegates collection of selected data elements related to performance improvement initiatives and avoidable delays.
  • Ensures completion of occurrence reports and investigates in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and integrates department services on intradepartmental, and hospital wide levels.
  • Plans for provision of services through provision of appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff. Policies and procedures are in place to support scope of services.
  • Actively participates in the event escalation and issue resolution plan and process.
  • Participates in planning and goal setting for the department.
  • Monitor space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources.
  • Monitors Kronos, provides coaching on Time and Attendance policy as needed and approves Time Sheets. Flexes staff according to workload and productivity measures.
  • Responsible for maintaining optimal nursing staff and setting nursing assignments in all department units as needed.
  • Monitors progress of new hires and ensures they advance to competent, independent practice in a timely manner.
  • Ensure 100% attendance by staff at mandatory education and training programs; .edu modules.
  • Actively furthers systems and standards that support Shared Governance, Magnet, and Just Culture philosophy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree Nursing Degree in Nursing or in progress, strongly preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing may be in lieu-of Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
