The former football coach, whose resume includes six national championships with Alabama and another at LSU, has joined with his Dream Motor Group partners Joe Agresti and Steve Cannon to acquire Toyota of Montgomery and Lexus of Montgomery in Montgomery, Ala., from Brett Sutherlin's Sutherlin Automotive Group in a deal valued at $151 million, according to Pinnacle Mergers & Acquisitions, which represented the seller in the transaction. Dream Motor Group now operates 10 luxury-vehicle dealership locations in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Tennessee and Texas. Under Sutherlin Automotive Group's ownership, the dealerships underwent modernization of sales and service operations, leadership realignment, CSI performance improvement and expanded fixed operations capacity, Pinnacle said, strengthening their market performance and long-term scalability. "Toyota of Montgomery and Lexus of Montgomery are high-performing assets in a strategically important market," Pinnacle president Mike Sims said. "Brett and his team executed a clear operational transformation and customer experience strategy that positioned these dealerships for sustained success under Dream Motor Group." For his part, Sutherlin said, "We are extremely proud of the teams at these stores and the results they delivered." The dealerships were Sutherlin's last in Alabama - he still owns one in Georgia - as he begins shifting his operation to the west. This fall he purchased a Subaru store in Huntington Beach, Calif., and announced he was relocating his headquarters to the Golden State, moves he called "a statement of intent" of "bold westward expansion into the nation's most competitive car market." He said then he is looking to acquire dealerships in California and the Southwest region. In a news release announcing the sale of the Alabama stores, Sutherlin said, "We look forward to announcing more acquisitions that we have under contract very soon." Gurley Leep acquires Indiana store from Penske. Indiana-based Gurley Leep Automotive Family has acquired Hyundai of Noblesville in Noblesville, Ind., from Penske Automotive Group, a deal announced by The Presidio Group, which represented Penske. The acquisition increases Gurley Leep's already sizable footprint in the state, moving it into the Indianapolis market. The company operates 23 locations in five states. "Expanding our Indiana presence has always been a priority for us, and this store is an ideal complement to our group," president Mike Leep Jr. said. "We look forward to serving our new customers and supporting the local community." Gurley Leep was founded in 1973 by Mike Leep Sr. and Van Gurley with a Dodge dealership in Highland, Ind.
