Requirements
  • 8 years in FAA certification and/or military developmental flight test programs preferred
  • Experience serving as a Flight Test Safety Officer / Unit Test Safety Officer
  • FAA commercial airplane or rotorcraft license preferred
  • Familiarity with Safety Management System in an aviation setting and FAA Safety Management System regulatory requirements
  • Experience with emerging technologies, such as electric propulsion and autonomous operations preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
Responsibilities
  • Work with the leaders of the Test, Evaluation, and Certification group to ensure their standard operating procedures (SOPs) support the company’s safety requirements
  • Collaborate with Test, Evaluation, and Certification group in developing and updating test safety related processes, such as Test Safety Plans, Test Hazard Analyses (THAs)
  • Collaborate in the development of and amendments to, company flight operations and flight test documentation including flight operations manuals, flight test SOPs, test safety processes, etc. This includes procedures involving ground handling of aircraft
  • Chair the Flight Test Safety Review Board (SRB)
  • Be a leader in Flight Test Risk Management through coordination with Lead Flight Test Engineers and by participating in test plan reviews, test flights, pre and post test briefings and test readiness reviews
  • Stay informed of the latest regulatory guidance and industry best practices pertaining to aviation safety, disseminate new information, and ensure company policies and procedures remain in compliance
  • Be a champion in safety promotion, by hosting safety stand downs and recurrent safety training for the Test, Evaluation, and Certification Group
  • Serve as a standing member of the company Safety Committee
  • Collaborate with Environment, Health, and Safety to ensure each facility's inspectable areas are in compliance with the company's Internal Audit Program and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Participate in flight test support flights to provide safe oversight
  • May require up to 10% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned
