Requirements
  • Operate tractors with attachments, light automotive equipment, power equipment, and hand tools.
  • Supervise others and control the work of employees.
  • Maintain records and diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Install and repair irrigation systems.
  • Know accepted practices, methods, tools, and materials used on grass and artificial turf sports fields, along with work hazards, safety precautions, supervisory practices, and park maintenance standards.
  • Repair, patch, fill, and correct damage to artificial turf fields.
  • Follow oral and written directions and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.
  • Teach required maintenance practices and equipment operation to other employees.
  • Read and understand chemical labels.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Calculate figures and amounts using basic algebra and geometry.
  • Solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagram, and schedule instructions.
  • Have education equivalent to high school graduation or a GED, plus 12 credit hours from an accredited college or trade school in turf management, horticulture, or a related field, and over three years of satisfactory full-time paid golf course maintenance employment with demonstrated supervisory skills, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license for at least six months.
  • Complete defensive driving with Tulsa County within six months of hire.
  • Hold a Certified Chemical Applicators Permit, Category III.
  • Meet the physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors around mechanical equipment, airborne particles, and chemicals.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain turf and grass sports fields in acceptable playing condition.
  • Operate tractors and specialized attachments to till, cultivate, and grade turf areas; apply prescribed chemicals, fertilizer, insecticide, rubber fill, and fungicide; mow, drag, and fill turf areas.
  • Teach other employees how to operate equipment.
  • Produce high-quality finished work while supervising project crews.
  • Cut grass and groom football, baseball, soccer, and other sports fields using hand mowers, power mowers, and other turf equipment.
  • Repair, patch, fill, and perform corrective maintenance on artificial turf fields.
  • Connect hoses and sprinkler systems to irrigate grass and clean turf.
  • Repair irrigation leaks, sprinkler heads, and operational controls.
  • Dig and rake baseball mounds, grade infields, clean sports fields, and repair roadbeds using hand tools.
  • Plant, trim, and spray trees and shrubs as assigned.
  • Interview, train, plan, assign, and direct the work of employees; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints; and resolve problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
