- Completion of a state-approved unlicensed assist personnel program, documented proof of meeting exempted unlicensed assist personnel guidelines, or enrollment in the unlicensed assist personnel program through SSM Health upon hire.
- For hires in Oklahoma or Wisconsin, completion of the Clinical Partner I orientation checklist during the 90-day orientation or probationary period.
- No experience is required.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Ability to meet the listed physical requirements, including standing and walking, communicating through hearing and speech, lifting and moving objects and patients, reaching, gripping, keyboard use, bending, kneeling, and related patient-care activities.
- Receive patient-care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated tasks within demonstrated competence for the patient age group served.
- Collect and document data for admission assessments, reassessments, appointment or surgery scheduling, and patient responses to care or treatment; provide appropriate data to the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse for analysis and validation.
- Inform the licensed nurse of changes in patient condition or needs, patient complaints, and patient or significant-other education needs.
- Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient-care needs and cost-containment requirements, using time and supplies economically.
- Perform delegated clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and preparing and organizing patient medical records.
- In an inpatient environment, answer patient calls for help, take vital signs, monitor behavior and physical condition, and assist with baths, ambulation, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene, bed-making, dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep-breathing exercises, catheter care, biological-specimen collection, and measurement and recording of fluid intake and output.
- In an inpatient environment, prepare patients for discharge, accompany them upon dismissal when indicated, and orient new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
- In an outpatient environment, manage referrals for medical and surgical specialist appointments and assist with care for patients aged three years or older.
- Perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures when assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
