  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A typing speed of 20 words per minute is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word, is required.
  • BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain accurate information for each home medical equipment referral or order according to payer guidelines and specified criteria.
  • Meet with patients to review home medical equipment needs.
  • Review and monitor all home medical equipment referrals.
  • Review Local Coverage Determinations via the CGS website to ensure items are issued according to established guidelines.
  • Ensure required medical documentation establishing medical necessity or meeting payer criteria is printed and available in the patient medical record before billing.
  • Ensure medical documentation is appropriately signed, dated, and authenticated, and initiate attestation paperwork when required.
  • Enter patient information into the home medical equipment software.
  • Verify patient health insurance coverage for requested equipment and supplies.
  • Complete insurance verification forms and discuss coverage with patients before delivery.
  • Monitor physician orders to ensure they are timely and properly signed and dated.
  • Contact patients at specified intervals to assess usage of supplies and equipment, offer appropriate suggestions, and document each contact.
  • Maintain equipment guarantees and warranties.
  • Update the Director weekly on equipment and supply inventory needs.
  • Interpret insurance coverage and calculate the amount due by the patient.
  • Process claims, generate bills for equipment issued to patients, and collect monies owed.
  • Handle money daily according to the DCH HME Cash Handling Policy.
  • Deliver and pick up equipment and supplies at patients' homes, DCH Home Medical Equipment, or the hospital.
  • Provide education on proper equipment use and maintenance using manufacturer service manuals and patient education documentation.
  • Perform functional tests before equipment setup and delivery.
  • Provide equipment troubleshooting techniques to patients.
  • Clean equipment and ensure maintenance is completed and updated in the home medical equipment software system.
  • Manage equipment repairs returned to the manufacturer, including obtaining return authorization and packaging.
  • Respond to patient calls and route them according to urgency.
  • Generate and track Certificates of Medical Necessity and ensure timely physician signatures.
  • Initiate and complete Advance Beneficiary Notices when appropriate.
  • Provide requested additional documentation to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
  • Update the manager on referral and billing problems and process improvements.
  • Assist in coordinating deliveries and ensure patients receive equipment as promised.
  • Work with the team on phone calls, walk-ins, and patient equipment needs.
  • Rotate in departmental on-call coverage.
  • Maintain compliance with employee handbook requirements, DCH Health System policies, and procedures.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • Perform duties in a manner that promotes patient, visitor, and employee safety and reduces risks and hazards.

Desired Qualifications
  • CPAP and/or respiratory experience is preferred.
