Taking shape.

Taking shape. Published 12:00 am Friday, March 27, 2026 HEATH HARRISON/THE IRONTON TRIBUNE The new PAM Health physical rehabilitation hospital is seen under construction in South Point last week. Construction of hospital continues in South Point SOUTH POINT - Construction of the PAM Health physical rehabilitation hospital is coming along in South Point near the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. The 42-bed facility, which will provide on-site, inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapy services, aimed at enhancing patient recovery and outcomes, is slated to open later this year. Mayor Jeff Gaskin said the hospital's coming also had an additional benefit for South Point, with its needs playing a part in getting a much-needed grant for the village's sewer system. Gaskin said the area had been a problem neighborhood for some time and the village's system could not support the hospital. "The lines were deteriorated and manholes were caving in," he said. "It would have cost us upwards of $1 million." Gaskin said the village and the hospital were able to apply for and receive a $680,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission for a new lift station for the sewer system. "it solved their problem, and it solved our problem," he said.
