Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in ESH and/or QA discipline or related field
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience
  • Requirements in one of the following areas: Managerial, Environmental Protection, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and/or Quality Assurance areas.
Responsibilities
  • Cooperatively develops monitors and controls the Laboratory's ESH policies, programs and standards, and assures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations, requirements and standards and all DOE orders.
  • Acts as a technical expert for ESH projects, programs and leads in the development of the ESH and/or QA quality assurance program ensuring compliance to policies.
  • Leads audits, site inspections, and accident investigations, and monitors trend analysis in order to identify areas of concern and implement improvements.
  • Conducts analysis on Lab's ESH organizational performance and submits reports to management and DOE as required or requested.
  • Develops guidance for ESH staff, line personnel, and sub-contractors on complex and emerging ESH matters and problems.
  • Prepares reports for management and DOE based upon observations, interpretation of data, current regulations and lab reporting procedures; routinely interacts with Division/Section/Center Heads, Department Heads and members of the Directorate on all ESH issues.
  • Provides guidance and interpretations to ESH staff, line personnel and project managers on both routine and complex ESH matters and problems.
  • Serves on Laboratory ESH subcommittees and ad hoc groups; serves as chair of the subcommittee, or chairs division/section/center committees and projects; develops Laboratory ESH policies by being an active participant in the activities of the subcommittee or an ad hoc group.
  • Reviews engineering documents for compliance with applicable codes and standards. Reviews are not limited to drawings, and the applicable codes and standards are not limited to ESH.
  • Assists in selection of ESH equipment and develops, modifies, installs, maintains, tests or monitors equipment.
  • Participates in ESH and/or QA reviews at other DOE sites and laboratories.
  • May supervise by recommending required personnel actions for the assigned area including, but not limited to, reviewing and approving attendance records, hiring, promotions, performance reviews, disciplinary actions and terminations of employment, as may be appropriate; ensures that subordinates are appropriately trained to operate in their areas of responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

  • Prefer Certified Safety Professional
