Requirements
- Completion of a recognized five-year Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Program or another verifiable recognized five-year training program specific to industrial electrical equipment, with additional verifiable journey-level electrician experience substitutable for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Two years of verifiable journey-level electrician experience installing, maintaining, and operating high-voltage equipment above 600 volts.
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.
- Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirements by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, repair, install, and test electrical equipment up to 24,000 volts at utility facilities.
- Maintain high-voltage conductors and locate, isolate, remove, and repair faulty sections.
- Perform de-energized maintenance, repairs, installation, and testing of electrical operating components for circuit breakers and transformers at substations, switchyards, and power-generating facilities rated up to 300,000 volts.
- Maintain, operate, and adjust power-generating and substation equipment, including photovoltaic solar equipment.
- Inspect, maintain, repair, install, and test switchgear, circuit breakers, instrumentation, valve actuators, battery banks, battery systems, and power supplies.
- Install above-ground and below-ground conduits and pull, terminate, and test wire for motors, control panels, lighting fixtures, outlets, and other electrical equipment.
- Perform phase-balancing operations and load computations on electrical circuits, and install and maintain digital and analog circuit-protective devices, including uninterruptible power supplies and ground-fault circuit interrupters.
- Perform insulation testing of cabling and motors to locate electrical faults.
- Erect and use ladders, scaffolds, staging, aerial lift trucks, light towers, and related equipment.
- Create as-built and shop drawings of electrical installations.
- Operate, rack, and repair circuit breakers and disconnect switches rated up to 24,000 volts.
- Maintain and repair motor starters, including variable-frequency drives rated up to 24,000 volts.
- Prepare and submit reports for time, materials used, and completed work.
- Perform related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience installing and maintaining industrial electrical systems.
- Extensive troubleshooting experience.
- Extensive experience working with transformers, motors, motor controls, variable-frequency drives from 1 to 2,500 horsepower, speed drives, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, and Distributed Control Systems.
- Extensive experience bending, cutting, and threading galvanized rigid steel conduit and PVC-coated galvanized rigid steel conduit.
- Experience working on large pumps and associated motors from 350 to 2,500 horsepower, motor controllers, circuit breakers, and switchgear up to 4,160 volts AC.
- Working knowledge of Limitorque and Auma valve actuators used in drinking-water transmission and distribution.
- Experience working on uninterruptible power supplies from 500 volt-amperes to 150 kilovolt-amperes.
- Experience working around chemicals.
- Experience installing and repairing chemical-injection pumps.
- Willingness to work in confined spaces and use bucket trucks and scissor lifts.
- Extensive experience performing electrical work at industrial, commercial, and residential sites and facilities.
- Experience operating and repairing medium-voltage equipment.
- Experience working with voltages up to 60 kilovolts.
