Requirements
  • One semester of related work experience.
  • A degree or substantial undergraduate coursework in the discipline and demonstrated competence in the subjects that will be tutored.
  • Proficiency using standard office software applications.
  • Proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties.
  • Ability to maintain an established work schedule.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Ability to use interpersonal and communication skills effectively, including tact, patience, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to use organizational and planning skills effectively, with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.
  • Ability to provide quality tutorial services to groups and individuals and provide feedback regarding student performance or progress.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from multicultural backgrounds, including students, fellow tutors, and faculty.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through communication and conduct that promote good relations with students, coworkers, and staff.
  • Ability to work safely and follow safety rules.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and occasionally lifting objects up to 20 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Tutor students according to set priorities and academic goals.
  • Provide one-on-one or group assistance to students in the subject discipline, college study skills, and Learning Lab resources.
  • Organize supplemental learning materials.
  • Provide feedback on student progress.
  • Assist with the research, development, delivery, and evaluation of specialized tutoring services or resources for tutorial activities when needed.
  • Lead study groups in the subject matter when needed.
