Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • The employee must have working knowledge of common prescription medications that treat conditions and diseases affecting the assigned patient population.
  • The employee must have basic computer skills, including familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • The employee must be able to demonstrate excellent telephone and switchboard etiquette.
  • The employee must be proficient with Google Suite, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for real-time collaboration.
  • The employee must have a full range of body motion, including the ability to handle and transfer patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • The employee must be able to stand, walk, push, bend, kneel, and reach at arm’s length and overhead in a clinic for prolonged periods.
  • The employee must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • The employee must be able to lift and move patients and medical equipment as needed.
  • The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.

Responsibilities
  • Greet and prepare patients for provider examinations by obtaining patient history, chief complaint, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and other preventive-medicine information; take patients’ vital signs; and record the information in the patient electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as directed.
  • Maintain complete and detailed patient records electronically in the electronic medical record.
  • Measure and record patients’ vital signs in the electronic medical record.
  • Handle front-desk operations, including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls.
  • Maintain patient medical records in accordance with the center’s policies.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and providers’ instructions to patients.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms.
  • Complete patient phone calls, including proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, transitional care management, and documentation of telephone encounters.
  • Support patients and providers during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to the physician as directed.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Perform clinical duties including administering oral and injectable medications, irrigating eyes and ears, dressing and bandaging wounds and incisions, starting and monitoring intravenous infusions, and assisting physicians with procedures as requested.
  • Perform in-office diagnostic tests, including eye examinations, electrocardiography, oxygen administration as ordered, pulse oximetry, peak-flow testing, and inhalation treatments.
  • Perform in-office Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived laboratory tests.
  • Perform quality control related to laboratory equipment and testing, maintain laboratory-related logs, perform prothrombin time/international normalized ratio testing using CoaguChek or Coag-Sense, and perform glucose testing using a glucometer.
  • Complete electronic medical records with medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
  • Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals as requested.
  • Draw blood and process specimens for send-out testing.
  • Provide patient education as directed by the provider.
  • Perform front-office clerical duties, including patient check-in and checkout, referrals, prescription medication management, and inbound and outbound telephone calls.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of office medications and medical supplies and place orders as needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Assist with inventory and maintain office supplies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, preferably with Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant credentials.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is preferred.
  • Intravenous start certification is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience is preferred, including knowledge of various collection methods and testing, such as bleeding times, collecting donor blood, bedside testing, and preparing specimens.
  • Knowledge of medical coding is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards is preferred.
