Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current Basic Life Support or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification, or certification obtained within 60 days of hire, through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, is required.
  • The role requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of up to eight hours at a time.
  • The role requires continual use of the fingers for patient care, writing, and computer entry; routine use of the upper extremities; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional pushing of a supply cart weighing up to 30 pounds; and occasional pushing of a wheelchair with a patient weighing up to 325 pounds.
  • The role requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level, along with normal hearing and good near and peripheral vision.
Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in maintaining and improving quality improvement initiatives.
  • Manage appointment scheduling and track referrals.
  • Open and close the office as required.
  • Capture patient demographic information.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in resolving identified problems as a team member.
  • Analyze current procedures and bring improvement suggestions to team members and supervisors.
  • Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records with recent test results and correspondence and determining needed services with physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants.
  • Complete pre-charting of value-based pieces up to five days before patient appointments and send messages to the Care Team when warranted.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and escort them to examination rooms by obtaining height, weight, vital signs, medication lists, allergies, personal, family, and social history, smoking status, and reason for the visit.
  • Provide directed patient-care services, including cleaning examination rooms, maintaining clinical supplies, cleaning and autoclaving contaminated instruments, administering injections or immunizations within the state-approved scope of practice, performing phlebotomy, pulmonary function testing or nebulizer treatments, electrocardiograms, and assisting with obstetrics and gynecology examinations as needed.
  • Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol.
  • Maintain vaccine temperature logs, inventory and order medical supplies such as vaccines and medications, dispose of expired sample medications, and stock rooms to established par levels.
  • Schedule outpatient testing, pre-certify patients for procedures, process referrals, respond to patient communications within practice guidelines, refill medications according to practice protocol, and provide patients with visit-related information.
  • Communicate and coordinate with providers or Care Coordinators regarding hospital discharges, emergency department visits, consulting physicians, community resources, disease management, patient self-management, chronic-condition education, individualized care plans, and follow-up contacts.
  • Review in-basket clinical pool messages and complete the information necessary to clear them.
  • Maintain the referral work queue and update notes for communication with other departments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
