Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Progressively responsible experience in academic fundraising or a related field.
  • Ability to identify, qualify, and cultivate prospective major gift donors; draft and execute creative individual and region-wide donor and prospect strategies; and solicit and secure significant private gifts.
  • Strategic vision to harness the potential of the larger community toward engagement and philanthropic goals.
  • Ability and desire to reach aggressive goals.
  • Interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including fluency in using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities.
Responsibilities
  • Build and manage a major gift portfolio and identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, including leadership gifts to the School’s Annual Fund and endowed funds.
  • Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of individual prospects.
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate contact, facilitate or make solicitations, and ensure effective stewardship.
  • Understand the School’s priorities and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects by matching prospect interests to specific School needs.
  • Prepare appropriate responses to planned gift donor inquiries.
  • Prepare written proposals for business-related projects in coordination with appropriate staff.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the funding needs of the Mason School and act as a resource to colleagues across campus.
  • Plan cultivation and stewardship activities that foster interaction between volunteers, donors, and Mason School leadership.
  • Prepare reports, surveys, development-related metrics, and other reporting.
  • Provide Corporate and Foundation Relations support as needed.
  • Work with faculty, Associate Deans, and Assistant Deans to integrate alumni into co-curricular learning opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and implement advancement and engagement strategies within the assigned portfolio, including leadership travel, prospect strategies, and engagement activities with giving officers, parent programs, constituent units, regional teams, planned giving, and principal gifts.
  • Work with board members to develop ongoing donor engagement and event strategies.
  • Design engagement opportunities and events, prepare invitation lists for targeted gatherings, and work with event staff to design content for development events and communications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Business or a related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
