Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact at a variety of levels.
  • A degree or master's in engineering or a related discipline, such as Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in assessing earthworks performance, including settlement, consolidation, and seasonal heave.
  • Review geotechnical reports, ground investigation data, and design outputs.
  • Contribute to developing track–ground interaction models and technical studies.
  • Support interpretation of instrumentation and monitoring data, including settlement markers and inclinometers.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into track and civil designs.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with differential settlement at transitions, including embankment–structure interfaces.
  • Support development of mitigation measures, including ground improvement and transition solutions.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and design deliverables for geotechnical inputs.
  • Liaise with construction teams to ensure geotechnical risks are understood and managed during delivery.
  • Attend site and design coordination meetings in London and/or Birmingham.
  • Support resolution of geotechnical issues during construction.
  • Assist in reviewing and validating monitoring reports and construction records.
  • Support identification of geotechnical risks, opportunities, and change events.
  • Contribute technical inputs for processes such as non-conformance reports, change events, and departures.
  • Assist with technical assurance during design, construction, and handover.
  • Promote efficient and buildable solutions through value engineering.
  • Promote safe-by-design principles and geotechnical risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Experience in geotechnical engineering, including understanding of earthworks behaviour such as settlement, consolidation, shrink–swell/heave, track–ground interaction, differential settlement, and the effects of dynamic loading on soils.
  • A CSCS Card.
