OKC Zoo's Read for Adventure program fosters literacy, wildlife connections for Oklahoma families. June 05, 2026 The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is proud to celebrate a decade of its literacy program, Read for Adventure, and bringing Oklahoma families and communities together through reading and wildlife encounters. Read for Adventure is a literacy-focused program that inspires interests in animals and nature while rewarding participants with the unique opportunity to explore the OKC Zoo for free. Thanks to the popularity of the program over 100,000 Oklahomans have been able visit the Zoo at no cost in the last ten years. New this year, the OKC Zoo collaborated with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries to expand the program to feature 28 book titles for readers to choose from. The featured book list includes a variety of animal, dinosaur, and nature themed titles for young readers, with books ranging from picture books and nonfiction to favorite popular book series like Who Would Win by author Jerry Pallotta. Families can check out any book title from the list and upon returning it will receive a voucher redeemable for free general admission to the OKC Zoo for up to four people (child, adult, or senior). Rekor Systems secures $16.8 million contract with Oklahoma District Attorneys Council as technology partner for statewide Uninsured Vehicle Enforcement program. Rekor. The agreement, subject to final contract negotiations, carries a total value of $16.8 million over a multi-year term. According to the latest data from the Insurance Information Institute, the state now ranks 27th nationally in uninsured motorist rates - placing it in the bottom half of all states and marking a dramatic reversal from the mid-2010s, when Oklahoma and Florida vied for the worst uninsured driving rates in the country.
