Requirements
  • An associate degree in Anesthesia Technology with certification, or an associate degree in an equivalent health-related field if not certified; equivalent experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Meet one experience pathway: two years of Anesthesia Technician experience with ASATT certification; three years of Anesthesia Technician experience with an associate degree in a health-related field; or five years of Anesthesia Technician experience without a degree or ASATT certification.
  • Hold Basic Life Support or instructor certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Hold Certified Anesthesia Technician certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists & Technicians.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Demonstrate competency in anesthesia support, anesthesia supplies, anesthetizing locations, related equipment, patient monitoring, and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment.
  • Possess basic computer knowledge and operate hospital and anesthesia information systems and Microsoft Office products.
  • Work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage time, handle challenging procedures and patient-care situations, and organize multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
  • Provide support to anesthesia providers and members of the interprofessional healthcare team before, during, and after procedures.
  • Prepare assigned anesthetizing locations and supplies, ensure equipment is available and functional, and independently perform anesthesia support activities in operating rooms, catheterization laboratories, intensive care units, perioperative units, post-anesthesia care units, and other applicable patient-care areas.
  • Assist with anesthesia-related procedures, patient monitoring, equipment setup and operation, and troubleshooting of anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Serve as a point-of-care testing super user for applicable modalities.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and work areas between patients in accordance with infection-control standards and department procedures.
  • Organize workflow, solve problems, manage multiple priorities, identify corrective actions and process-improvement opportunities, report near misses, and enter errors into TAPS.
  • Reprocess flexible scopes and transesophageal echocardiography probes in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Restore and organize anesthetizing areas and anesthesia-service workstations after each case, turn off anesthesia gases, restock unused supplies, and return equipment to designated locations.
  • Use resources efficiently, manage time, prioritize daily tasks, and assist coworkers as needed.
  • Participate in assigned committees and task forces, complete action items, and follow up to ensure assignments are completed.
  • Participate in training and mentor Anesthesia Technicians and other team members.
