Requirements
  • Graduate of a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)-accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • National certification by one of the recognized Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Certification Centers.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required, with additional Advanced Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support training at the discretion of the department.
  • Near vision is required.
  • Normal hearing is required.
  • Manual dexterity is required.
  • The role requires strength and/or stamina for lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment.
  • The employee must be cognizant of environmental factors and infection-control issues and maintain a safe environment.
  • Demonstrated competency in patient-care assessment for each patient population served, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and point-of-care laboratory tests.
  • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Make diagnoses and decisions about the management and treatment of patients.
  • Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and physical examination results, using the Meditech electronic medical record system.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Prescribe therapy or medication electronically when available.
  • Educate, instruct, and coordinate activities with medical assistants as needed during patient care and treatment.
  • Provide emergency support following established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with staff, medical staff, and administration in support of operations.
