Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least three months of experience in a position involving heavy cash handling and customer service exposure is required.
  • Must have high-school-graduate-level mathematical aptitude, knowledge of standard cash-handling procedures, and knowledge of computerized cash-register systems.
  • Must have general knowledge of basic customer-service skills, restaurant operations, and food-service principles.
  • Must communicate verbally and in writing in English, follow written and verbal instructions, and handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Must use tact and understanding when addressing varied customer-service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations.
  • Must be able to handle coins and writing utensils, grasp handles, push buttons, and carry dishes.
  • Must lift and carry trays and bus tubs weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Must stand throughout the entire shift and lift arms above the head to retrieve objects from shelves.
  • Must be able to read written communications, computer screens, and printouts, see colors, and survey the entire room in dim lighting.
  • Must work in an indoor environment involving standing, walking, carrying, lifting, and bending.
Responsibilities
  • Greet arriving customers cordially as they enter the restaurant.
  • Escort customers to assigned tables, issue menus, and establish rapport to accommodate special needs or requests.
  • Assign sections and notify servers of new seats to ensure customers receive immediate and proper attention.
  • Remain visible in the restaurant during the entire shift by staying at the cashier station and circulating periodically to assist servers, respond to customer requests, and assess operational efficiency for management.
  • Receive payments and process transactions on a computerized cash register, counting back change aloud to protect the guest and restaurant.
  • Verify the accuracy of guest checks, including pricing, discounts, and payment method.
  • Ensure charge vouchers are complete and verify dates, charge amounts, authorization numbers, and signatures.
  • Collect departing-customer feedback on products and services, take written notes, and report comments to management.
  • Distribute and account for all checks issued to servers by maintaining an accurate check-issuance log for the entire shift.
  • Count daily revenue using a calculator, balance it against cash-register reports, and immediately alert management to discrepancies.
  • Balance and reconcile computerized and manual reports at the end of each shift for accurate daily records for the Accounting Department.
  • Maintain a clean and attractive restaurant by assisting with vacuuming, sweeping, general cleaning, and sidework duties.
  • Check the proper setup of tables and seating before opening.
  • Report maintenance or housekeeping discrepancies to management in writing.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor.

Sage Hospitality Group will be taking over management of Hotel Vandivort in Springfield, MO. Sage will oversee daily operations of the property, originally constructed in 1906 as a Masonic Temple, including management of the hotel’s restaurant and rooftop bar.
