Team & Role
We are the fastest growing home security company in the country competing against the entrenched giants, like ADT, and the new-to-the-space giants, like Amazon and Google. To compete in this ever growing IoT home automation security space we must learn and iterate quickly, work collaboratively, and deliver creatively. In service to this challenge, our engineering team is proud to own and run the literal "full stack", from designing and building the circuit boards on our hardware all the way to coding the UI on our mobile applications.
The Product Engineering team owns the architecture, design and implementation of all the hardware and firmware for the Simplisafe home security systems. We are seeking a strong systems engineer to help implement and deliver our next generation IoT hardware products.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop a deep understanding of our current hardware architecture in order to drive continuous improvement of our design as we add new devices to the system.
- Design new IoT hardware for next generation products and technology ecosystems.
- Research the competitive and next generation landscape.
- Dive deep into any area that could help our existing systems improve in quality or lower in cost.
- Work closely with key stakeholders to distill core product features into functional specifications and requirements.
- Work closely with device software and cloud software architects to design hardware that meets software functional needs.
- Software and embedded system architecture design contribution.
- Electrical architecture design including chipset selection, RF protocols, battery architecture.
- Generating software and hardware requirement specifications.
- Maintaining a balance between compelling features, technology longevity, time to market and cost.
- Meeting with solutions vendors to establish relationships and evaluate technology opportunities.
- Lead interdisciplinary efforts and teams to deliver on whole product development projects.
- Broad IoT systems-level thinking across software, firmware, and hardware.
What You’ll Bring:
- Have a BS in EE, CE, CS or equivalent with > 5 years of relevant experience.
- Enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment.
- Are proficient with interpreting requirements from multiple individuals into a workable concept.
- Are experienced in the full product development lifecycle from napkin drawings to production.
- Are an effective communicator (written and verbally).
- Can establish credible depth in your technical area of expertise.
- Have deep technical expertise in embedded product design.
- Have previous experience as a discipline lead or systems engineer.
- Have a functional understanding of the popular wireless technologies (Wifi, Bluetooth, Cellular, Sub-Ghz radio, Z-wave)
- Have knowledge of MCUs, CPUS and general embedded computing design.
