Grammarly is excited to offer a remote-first hybrid working model, which combines the flexibility of working from home with the benefits of gathering in person. Team members can work primarily remotely in the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, and Portugal. Conditions permitting, teams will meet in person a few times every quarter at one of Grammarly’s hubs, currently in San Francisco, Kyiv, New York, Vancouver, and Berlin, or in a shared workspace in Krakow.
Grammarly team members in this role are required to live within a daily commutable distance to San Francisco. Grammarly may provide relocation assistance.
The opportunity
Grammarly empowers people to thrive and connect, whenever and wherever they communicate. Every day, over 30 million people and 50,000 teams around the world rely on our AI-powered communication assistance technology. All of this begins with our team collaborating in a values-driven and learning-oriented environment.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Design Technologist to join Grammarly’s Design team and focus on our design system. This role will report to the Product Design Manager of the Client Applications domain. Teams within the Client Applications domain develop our design system and core user experiences for Grammarly across all mobile and desktop applications, including browser extensions, Windows and Mac applications, and iPhone, iPad, and Android keyboards and applications.
Your impact
As a Design Technologist focused on Grammarly’s design system, you will be part of the core team that establishes principles, evolves scalable practices, and inspires craft excellence. This role is ideal for someone who thrives when working in the intersection of design and engineering, with a collaborative approach, and enjoys brainstorming widely and writing code that helps validate ideas. Your work will enable teams to rapidly prototype new ideas and create thoughtful applications with cohesion, consistency, and quality—and thereby further Grammarly’s vision of ubiquity and trustworthiness.
In this role, you will:
- Shape the holistic vision for Grammarly’s design system, designing and integrating new interaction patterns, behaviors, and frameworks into the design system that others can use.
- Inform decisions with user research, and internal team needs, balancing a variety of use cases, challenges, and opportunities across applications.
- Approach opportunities and challenges with an analytical mindset, knowing when to create exploratory lightweight prototypes versus refined solutions that can scale.
- Refine work to reach a high bar for quality—balancing design fidelity, technical feasibility, and accessibility.
- Collaborate with a wide range of cross-functional teammates to learn about how the design system can best serve them and contribute to creating solutions that help teams build applications for Grammarly users with various abilities, contexts, and needs.
We’re looking for someone who
- Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
- Is able to collaborate in person 3 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
- Has a relevant work history that shows evidence of a principled approach to creating user-centric, intuitive front-end interfaces and achieving business impact.
- Has strong foundational knowledge of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc) and modern front-end frameworks and tools (React, NodeJS, etc), and curiosity to learn new technologies and methods.
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively share ideas and solicits feedback to improve our collective work.
- Has a mindset for seeking root causes, approaching problems, evaluating trade-offs, and designing solutions systematically across applications to develop best-in-class user experiences.
- Works proactively to set goals, can manage multiple priorities, and is accountable for driving projects from beginning to end.
- Is excited about contributing to creating an inclusive environment and inspiring teammates to explore and go beyond the status quo.
