Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is required.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience is required for the Advanced Professional level, or at least 14 years for the Senior Professional level.
- A strong foundation in machine learning concepts, including supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning, is required.
- Hands-on experience developing models with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX is required.
- Proficiency in Python and scientific computing libraries including NumPy, Pandas, and SciPy is required.
- Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and structured and unstructured datasets is required.
- A solid understanding of statistics, probability, optimization, and linear algebra is required.
- Experience designing and implementing deep neural networks, including convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, or Transformer-based architectures, is required.
- Familiarity with training and evaluating models on graphics processing unit-accelerated hardware is required.
- The ability to build reproducible experiments and maintain clear documentation is required.
- Experience integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning models into software systems or prototypes is required.
- Knowledge of model validation, benchmarking, and performance tuning best practices is required.
- Strong problem-solving ability and the ability to formulate research questions into practical machine learning tasks are required.
- Experience with version control, testing, and modern software engineering practices is required.
- The ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to interdisciplinary teams is required.
- A demonstrated track record of research, publications, or impactful artificial intelligence and machine learning project contributions is required.
- Eligibility to obtain a government security clearance is required.
- U.S. citizenship is required to apply.
- Successful completion of university-required background checks is required.
- Employees must comply with the ARL drug testing program and applicable electronic and physical monitoring requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced research in artificial intelligence and machine learning, software engineering, computational systems, or related fields.
- Develop novel methods, models, and technologies addressing emerging artificial intelligence challenges for sponsors.
- Communicate results through technical reports, publications, and presentations to stakeholders, scientists, software engineers, and external sponsors.
- Contribute to publications, white papers, technical memoranda, and study plans, especially in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design, prototype, and evaluate mission-focused solutions.
- Perform larger tasks individually or as part of a group and lead tasks.
Desired Qualifications
- A Master's or Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a closely related field is preferred.
- Experience with explainable artificial intelligence, trustworthy artificial intelligence, or robust/adversarial machine learning is preferred.
- Experience with large-scale datasets, streaming data, or multimodal sensor data is preferred.
- Experience with Docker, containerized machine learning services, or machine learning pipeline tools is preferred.
- Experience in applied research environments or mission-focused systems development is preferred.
- Current eligibility for access to classified information at the TS/SCI level or higher is preferred.
