Responsibilities
  • Provide subject-matter expertise and specialized instruction for students engaged in experiential clinical coursework.
  • Teach and mentor an assigned group of students in group and one-on-one settings.
  • Oversee students' clinical learning and support their success within clinical placement settings.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in communication, ethical comportment, and problem solving.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the assigned content area.
  • Participate in implementing the philosophy and goals of the program.
  • Foster student learning through innovative teaching practices, including teaching students how to perform duties in clinical settings.
  • Make appropriate student referrals for remediation or other needs using WGU policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with students' assigned coaches or preceptors about student progress and concerns.
  • Provide final review and approval of students' clinical time.
  • Offer proactive support and outreach to assigned students.
  • Use technology-based teaching and communication platforms to help students develop competencies.
  • Submit electronic clinical student evaluation forms after completion of clinical intensives.
  • Collaborate with university professionals to promote a positive student-focused environment.
  • Respond to changing requirements, priorities, and short deadlines.
  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant state regulations.
  • Conduct in-person and remote methods of student evaluation.
  • Facilitate learning experiences that support students' attainment of knowledge and skills.
  • Execute teaching practice independently with specific guidance from senior faculty and program leaders.
  • Use available resources to address student concerns and inquiries.
  • Support students' needs to help them achieve course or program outcomes at the individual student level.
  • Follow established university and department policies and best practices.
  • Communicate with students to support their questions and needs.
  • Communicate with faculty members within and outside the department.
  • Provide feedback regarding discipline and practice leadership.
  • Contribute as a collegial team member.
  • Adhere to learning and operational quality guidance and instruction.
  • Support initiatives within the specialty.
  • Support change-management practices.
Desired Qualifications
  • A doctorate or terminal degree in a specific content area is preferred.
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance-learning students is preferred.
  • A terminal degree and all applicable licenses or certifications are preferred.
  • Prior experience in clinical teaching or nursing education is preferred.
