Requirements
- The worker must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- The worker must tolerate repetitive use of the hands, arms, and legs and perform sedentary to heavy work.
- The worker must have hand-eye coordination and be able to communicate by hearing, comprehending, and speaking to perform work safely.
- The worker must operate or be willing to operate hand and power tools, including electric, gas, and pneumatic tools.
- The worker must climb and maintain balance on steel or wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- The worker must frequently use the hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
- The worker must perform prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, and lifting.
- The worker must walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, and loose or soft sand.
- The worker may be required to work in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
- The worker must communicate effectively with management and supervision.
- The worker must have reading and writing comprehension sufficient to give and receive directions and follow safety policies.
- The worker must be able to use mathematics and complete calculations, make decisions, concentrate amid distractions, and remember, examine, and observe details.
- The worker must understand the construction process and how rods reinforce concrete foundations or framing.
- The worker must learn safety hazards related to the work and safely and effectively use or operate work-related tools and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Space and fasten rods together in forms according to blueprints using wire and pliers.
- Position and secure steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms using fasteners and hand tools.
- Place blocks under rebar to hold the bars off the deck.
- Bend steel rods with hand tools and rod-bending machines.
- Cut and fit wire mesh or fabric using hooked rods, and position fabric or mesh in concrete to reinforce concrete.
- Cut rods to required lengths using metal shears, hacksaws, or bar cutters.
- Assist other craft workers as needed.
- Work in a plant operations or construction jobsite setting.
