  • A current approved Alabama Board of Nursing Registered Nurse license or a multistate license is required, or the ability to obtain one before starting.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training is required.
  • An Associate degree in Nursing is the minimum educational requirement.
  • The candidate must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • The applicable unit-specific certification is required: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Cardiac/Critical Care, Emergency Department, Perioperative, or Dialysis; Pediatric Advanced Life Support for the Emergency Department and Pediatrics; Trauma Nursing Core Course for the Regional Campus Emergency Department; Neonatal Resuscitation for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Labor and Delivery, or Mother Baby Unit; Intermediate Fetal Monitoring for Labor and Delivery; or Cardiac Monitoring Unit certification for the Cardiac Monitoring Unit.
  • International registered nurses must hold or obtain an approved Alabama Board of Nursing Registered Nurse license or multistate license, hold or obtain American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training, meet the Associate degree minimum, and be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • The role requires physical presence onsite and the ability to perform medium work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects; prolonged standing and walking; reaching, kneeling, bending, sitting, stooping, and running in an emergency.
  • The candidate must be able to work prolonged shifts, tolerate exposure to body fluids and hazardous materials, use required protective equipment, and perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Every other weekend is required, including Saturday and Sunday.
Responsibilities
  • Assess each assigned patient on admission and on an ongoing basis, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, pain, nutritional, functional, developmental, age-related, and discharge-planning needs.
  • Plan, provide, and document patient and significant-other education after identifying barriers to learning.
  • Evaluate and regularly reevaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
  • Assign and delegate nursing care to team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities.
  • Apply safety principles when performing care.
  • Accurately document observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
  • Provide accurate handoff reports and participate in unit-based huddles.
  • Assist with performance-improvement activities by serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with performance-improvement measures, and supporting and implementing necessary changes.
  • Perform initial and annual competency assessments for the applicable job class.
  • Maintain professional nursing practice standards and create positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Provide leadership to team members by articulating and delegating expected standards of care, supervising team members, and supporting their contributions.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook and adhere to DCH Health System policies, procedures, and behavioral standards.
  • Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures patient, visitor, and employee safety; identify and reduce unsafe practices, risks, and hazards.
  • Use electronic mail, time-and-attendance software, learning-management software, and the intranet.
  • Address conflict and stressful situations, communicate clearly and accurately with different personalities, participate in face-to-face discussions and groups, and receive and provide delegation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
