General Description:
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for overseeing the firm’s tax compliance functions. This role requires a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to collaborate with internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
- Manage the tax compliance calendar and ensure timely filing of all tax-related documents for the Firm and the Foundation.
- Prepare the Firm’s reporting for sales & use tax, personal property tax and unclaimed property, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws.
- Coordinate the annual LLP and Foundation registrations in the various jurisdictions where we operate.
- Support the firm during tax audits, preparing necessary documentation and responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Maintain fixed asset records including monthly reporting for financial statement and tax purposes.
- Assist the Tax Director in development and implementation of tax policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Assist the Tax Director in the annual preparation of income tax workpapers and returns. As the firm files as a corporation this includes the filing of Form 1120 and other corporate state and local returns.
- Stay current on changes in tax legislation and industry trends, communicating relevant updates to internal stakeholders.
- Special project and duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Proactive approach to tax strategy.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, with a focus on compliance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with fixed asset and accounting software is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a demanding environment.
Required Qualifications & Education:
- Minimum of 3 years of tax accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications & Education:
- CPA certification is preferred.
- Master’s degree in taxation or accounting is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Moderate or advanced keyboard usage
