Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, certification, or license is required.
  • No previous experience is required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform multi-skilled tasks that support patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.
  • Provide hands-on patient care in a culturally competent manner while adhering to quality, safety, service, regulatory, ethical, legal, and institutional standards.
  • Support patients’ individual needs, respect spiritual beliefs and practices, and provide emotional support while managing discomforts.
  • Prioritize and integrate multiple requests and work expectations by performing tasks safely, professionally, and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and appropriate team members and seek assistance when needed.
  • Participate in unit or clinic programs and meetings and contribute to team building and constructive conflict resolution.
  • Use technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating information about clinical situations, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Maintain current clinical practice knowledge and competencies and pursue professional development.
  • Provide and accept focused constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain ethical and therapeutic communication standards.
  • Assist providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment and examination rooms with proper supplies, instruments, and materials.
  • Prepare patients for physician care by providing basic instructions and information about examination procedures.
  • Perform vital signs, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy, and document results in the patient’s medical record.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments using sterile technique.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory-work forms.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies and perform clerical duties.
  • Safeguard University assets and follow University and unit-level policies and procedures.
  • Manage assigned EPIC In-Basket messages, including test results, patient calls, staff messages, patient advice requests, prescription refill requests, and scheduling-related messages.
  • Process medical-record requests and complete patient forms.
  • Coordinate with providers and insurance carriers to secure required approvals before scheduled procedures.
  • Receive, process, distribute, and maintain incoming and outgoing faxes.
  • Scan and upload patient documentation into the electronic medical record.
  • Support the Pediatric Neurology Division by coordinating the Fast Track Clinic, processing medical records, obtaining prior authorizations for medications, imaging, electroencephalograms, and video electroencephalograms, maintaining electronic medical record documentation, and serving as a preceptor to junior Medical Assistants.
