Nucor to invest $59 million to expand production capabilities at its Vulcraft Indiana manufacturing facility.

Nucor to invest $59 million to expand production capabilities at its Vulcraft Indiana manufacturing facility. Aug 13, 2026, 09:10 ET CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced today that it will invest $59 million to expand its Vulcraft Indiana manufacturing facility in St. Joe, Indiana, adding capabilities to produce steel grating products. The investment is expected to create 20 new full-time jobs, adding to the more than 300 teammates currently employed at the facility. "We are pleased to be growing our Vulcraft business in Indiana with this investment to better serve our customers and strengthen our downstream production capabilities, advancing our mission to Grow the Core and Expand Beyond," said John Hollatz, Executive Vice President of Fabricated Construction Products. "Vulcraft is where Nucor got its start in the steel industry, and it remains an important part of our growth today. We appreciate Governor Braun and state and local DeKalb County leaders for their support as we continue to expand our manufacturing footprint in Indiana." Today's announcement marks Nucor's fourth major investment in Indiana in recent years. In 2022, the company announced a $290 million investment to modernize its sheet mill operations in Crawfordsville. The following year, Nucor announced plans to build a $115 million utility infrastructure production facility nearby. The company also invested $28.5 million to build an insulated metal panel production facility in Waterloo, adjacent to its existing Nucor Building Systems Indiana campus. That facility began operations in 2021. Together, these investments have created approximately 300 new Nucor jobs in Indiana. Today, Nucor employs more than 2,600 teammates at more than a dozen locations across the state. Nucor acquired Vulcraft in 1962, marking the company's entrance into the steel industry. From a single production facility in South Carolina, Nucor expanded the Vulcraft business and ultimately made the decision to begin producing its own steel. Vulcraft Indiana opened in 1972 as Nucor's fifth Vulcraft facility and today is one of nine Vulcraft facilities operating across North America. Vulcraft is the nation's leading producer of open-web steel joists, joist girders and steel decking, which are used primarily in nonresidential construction. These products serve as structural support systems for roofs and floors in warehouses, data centers, manufacturing facilities, retail stores, shopping centers, schools and hospitals, as well as in some multi-story residential buildings. Vulcraft has an annual joist and deck production capacity of approximately 1.2 million tons. About Nucor Nucor and its affiliates are manufacturers of steel and steel products, with operating facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Products produced include: carbon and alloy steel - in bars, beams, sheet and plate; hollow structural section tubing; electrical conduit; steel racking; steel piling; steel joists and joist girders; steel deck; fabricated concrete reinforcing steel; cold finished steel; precision castings; steel fasteners; metal building systems; insulated metal panels; overhead doors; steel grating; wire and wire mesh; and utility structures. Nucor posts $1.1B in Q2 income.

Nucor posts $1.1B in Q2 income. The steel production and metals recycling company boosted net income year on year and quarter on quarter in this year's second quarter. Published July 27, 2026 Nucor Corp., a Charlotte, North Carolina-based recycled-content steel producer, has announced second quarter 2026 net earnings attributable to Nucor shareholders of nearly $1.16 billion, marking an increase from the prior quarter and the second quarter of 2025. The quarterly profit figure represents a 92 percent increase compared with the $603 million earned by Nucor in this year's first quarter and a 55 percent increase from the $743 million earned by the steel producer one year earlier. All three of Nucor's business segments enjoyed boosted income from April through June compared with the first three months. That includes a triple-digit increase in profits for its Raw Materials sector, which includes the David J. Joseph (DJJ) metals recycling operations. According to Nucor, its Raw Materials segment cleared $146 million in profits in this year's second quarter, which is 224 percent higher compared with the previous quarter and 156 percent higher compared with one year earlier. Nucor credits higher earnings in its raw materials segment in the 2026 second quarter as being "primarily due to increased average selling prices and shipments." "Investment across key sectors of the United States economy, combined with supportive federal trade policies, drove a second consecutive quarterly record for Nucor steel mill shipments," says Leon Topalian, Nucor's board chair and CEO. "We continue to execute our growth strategy through investments to expand our capabilities and strengthen our position as the market leader with the most diverse portfolio of steel and fabricated steel products in North America," he adds. Nucor says the increase in second quarter earnings was driven primarily by the increase in earnings in its recycled-content electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mills segment, which the company says experienced higher average selling prices and higher shipment volumes. A breakdown in the firm's financials shows Nucor sold steel to external customers for an average of $1,145 per ton while paying an average of $422 per ton for raw materials (predominantly ferrous scrap and direct-reduced iron). That spread of $723 per ton outpaces the $670 per ton spread the company managed in this year's first quarter and is 13.3 percent higher compared with the $638 per ton spread in the second quarter of 2025. In a reference to tariff refunds, Nucor states, "Additionally, the steel mills segment earnings included a reduction to cost of products sold in the amount of $130 million related to cash refunds associated with prior periods' raw materials procurement costs." The downstream steel and building products segment had improved earnings due to increased volumes and stable average realized pricing, says the company. Concerning the quarter now underway, Nucor says it expects higher consolidated reported earnings beyond the impressive second quarter results. Sponsored Content Optimal productivity, heavy construction, safety features and operator comfort come together in the SENNEBOGEN 360 G-series telescopic wheel loader, designed for work across the waste and recycling industry. Telescopic wheel loaders manufactured by SENNEBOGEN have a growing presence at transfer stations, material recovery facilities (MRFs), construction and demolition (C&D) recycling plants and metal recycling facilities across North America. "In the steel mills segment we expect an increase in earnings due to higher realized pricing across all major product categories with stable volumes," states the firm. Nucor predicts, however, that its raw materials segment is expected to have decreased earnings in the third quarter "due to lower margins." In the steel products segment, Nucor says it expects increased earnings because of higher volumes and higher realized pricing. Get curated news on YOUR industry.
