Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field, supplemented with related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Considerable knowledge of modern office management; supervision and training principles and practices; budget evaluation, preparation and control; accounting principles; word processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages; business management, finance, procurement, contracting, personnel and facilities management; applicable federal, state and agency regulations and policies; and agency, department or section administrative and program practices, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in operating and supervising others in the use of office equipment, including a personal computer.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and manage staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing; plan, develop and direct administrative operations including administrative, support and technical functions; manage multiple areas of responsibility; interpret and analyze fiscal and technical data for decision-making; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, address employee concerns and problems, direct work, counsel and discipline employees, and complete employee performance appraisals.
  • Monitor work progress and approve completed work.
  • Consult with assigned staff, assist with complex or problematic situations, and provide technical expertise.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Initiate actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Manage budgetary, fiscal, administrative, human resources, clerical and technical functions, including purchasing, storekeeping, mechanical maintenance and building maintenance.
  • Answer questions and provide instruction for state and local finance departments.
  • Provide information and answer questions relating to audits, financial records and activities, and coordinate state and local computer technology.
  • Develop and maintain administrative procedures.
  • Ensure assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget.
  • Monitor service contracts.
  • Serve on a variety of committees.
