Requirements
  • Experience working in the design field (e.g., design work in creating & preparing displays, architectural design, graphic design, industrial design).
  • Experience assembling and preparing displays of artifacts, objects, or art pieces/collections.
  • Experience in project management (e.g., defining project components, establishing work-completion timelines, coordinating work with contractors or sub-contractors).
Responsibilities
  • Plans, designs, and oversees the implementation of permanent and/or temporary exhibits for the museum by utilizing drawing physical sketches, drawing construction plans, and/or utilizing graphic design software.
  • Coordinates and oversees the activities of installers to ensure proper execution of exhibit plans and proper installation of the exhibit.
  • Assists in providing archival needs of the museum's permanent collection and temporary exhibitions utilizing current conservation material available.
  • Inventory Procurement/Management: Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
  • Assists in documenting the movement of artifacts within the collection.
  • Assists in the cataloging of objects that are brought into and out of the museum collection.
  • Assists in conservation, preservation and restoration of objects within the collection.
  • Meets with staff to discuss exhibit budget considerations, time limitations, and other factors that may impact the exhibit installation and execution.
  • Plans production schedule for fabrication and installation of exhibit components.
  • Confers with administrative, curatorial, and exhibit staff members to determine theme, content, and informational purpose of the exhibit.
  • Meets with staff to examine the space and location of the exhibit being planned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in the areas of studio art with an emphasis on design, graphic design, architectural design, industrial design, or a related field.
  • Experience working with design software.
  • Experience working in construction (e.g., reading and interpreting blueprints, elevations, diagrams, design plans, etc.)
  • Skill in wood and/or metal working.
