The Mozilla Foundation’s Director of Digital Engagement is a strategic and creative thinker passionate about mobilizing a global community of people committed to improving the health of the internet now and for future generations.
This role will lead Mozilla’s digital supporter engagement work across the organization, ensuring that we provide a relevant and engaging experience to a wide range of individuals connected to Mozilla. The Director, Digital Engagement is responsible for delivering a compelling, impactful strategy, including meeting online fundraising goals. They are a visible and trusted leader with vision about digital engagement strategies across Mozilla and clearly ‘own’ the digital engagement approach and outcomes.
As a result of the Director’s work, the Mozilla Foundation has an active supporter community; a vibrant grassroots fundraising program as measured by total income, high supporter participation and continuous donations; and significantly contributes to advocacy campaign wins through the strategic mobilization of our digital supporters.
As a Director of Digital Engagement at Mozilla, you will…
Deliver a multi-layered digital engagement strategy that supports and reflects Mozilla’s priorities, programs and ambitions, and draws upon a variety of pathways for supporters to engage and supply to our work through:
Digital Engagement Strategy (60%)
- Ensure fundraising activities are appropriately and strategically layered into our engagement program and reach our financial goals
- Approve, coordinate and make decisions on all core engagement activities including:
- Email channel content, strategies and cadence
- Growing Mozilla email list health, year-over-year through a combination of lowered unsubscribe rates, higher opt-in conversion, onboarding journeys and list segmentation
- Growing our email activation with a goal for it to exceed industry benchmarks
- Growing fundraising performance (income, total donors, repeat donors) year-over-year with goal of generating $10m/year within three years
- Increasing non-English digital engagement opportunities
- Implementation of product roadmaps for technology including email, donor processors/systems, campaign systems/tools, and engagement platforms/tools
- Ensure Mozilla Foundation receive engagement metrics reports that should support strategy
- Continually employ a data-informed approach that incorporates testing, analysis and reflection to achieve the goals on engagement, fundraising and localization above
- Lead the team’s budget, outside vendors and contracts with impact and fiscal responsibility as key factors
People Management (20%)
- Lead the Senior Managers of Supporter Engagement and Digital Fundraising
- Ensure high-quality management staff including ensuring the team is employing accurate job descriptions, performance reviews, equitable job advancement, and professional development opportunities
- Ensure supervision of team consultants and agencies in coordination with staff
- Develop and coordinate the engagement team budget, including quarterly check-ins, planning and budget adjustments
Advocacy Leadership + Cross-Team Partnership (10%)
- Develop effective partnerships with Global Advocacy Directors
- Build ambitious, cross-Advocacy projects that achieve team-wide objectives
- Develop, drive and deliver ambitious cross-organizational teamworks
- Actively chip into crafting a positive and inclusive team culture
Organizational Leadership (10%)
- Support development and implementation of key Mozilla Foundation programs and policies, in collaboration with Executives and other Directors
- Attend and regularly lead portions of Leadership Team semi-monthly meetings and in-person retreats
- Develop and cultivate cross-team collaborations along with other Directors on time-limited and multi-year projects
Your Professional Profile:
You must be an entrepreneurial thinker, passionate about driving action and impact with and for people. They should have experience at an outstanding globally-dispersed advocacy organization or social-good company leading teams that drive meaningful change in the world. While experience in technology issues and organizations is not required, genuine excitement and curiosity about developing expertise and driving impact in technology that supports the public interest are crucial.
The Director must have demonstrated experience in developing effective internal and external collaboration in fast-paced, evolving organizations/external environments.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated and deep experience in the following areas: supporter engagement strategy development + execution, digital fundraising that meets ambitious and multi-year goals, email marketing, digital campaign strategy and execution, supporter management, and data analytics in these contexts. This role is well-suited for a problem solver who is passionate about the opportunities (and understands the potential challenges) of leading advocacy efforts within an outstanding environment like Mozilla.

- High level of cultural competence and experience working across cultures is crucial0
- At least seven years of senior management experience within a globally-focused advocacy organization
Salary and Benefits Information:
The Mozilla Foundation is dedicated to fair and equitable compensation for our staff. We aim to pay a competitive and market-based salary based on the responsibilities and requirements of the role. We aim to offer at the midpoint of our salary ranges for the purposes of increasing inclusivity and fairness of our offer process and ensuring internal equity. We do not ask for, or take into account, salary histories in our offer process.
The base salary ranges, and the mid-point, for this role is listed below. We target the 75th percentile of market pay as a salary band midpoint for all levels, with 10% either side of the midpoint to create a salary range.These four countries are where we most commonly employ staff.
Please note that we are currently undergoing a compensation review and these ranges may change (increase).
- Germany: €130,976 - €160,082 (mid-point: €145,529)
- UK: £91,913 - £112,338 (mid-point: £102,126)
- Canada: $142,846 - $174,590 (mid-point: $158,718)
- US: $151,424 - $185,074 (mid-point: $168,249)
We may also add in a geographic differential to this base salary based on the local job market. This would be applied to the above ranges depending on the successful candidate’s location. Below are some of the common cities in which we hire staff along with examples of salary ranges,with the geographical differential applied:
- Inner London: £100,185 - £122,448 (mid-point: £111,316)
- Toronto: $154,131 - $188,382 (mid-point: $171,256)
- New York: $167,778 - $205,062 (mid-point: $186,420)
