Commonwise Home Care provides non-medical, in-home personal care for older adults, focusing on helping clients stay safe and independent at home. Its services span companionship care, personal care, specialty care for conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia, and administrative support. The core model pairs high-quality, well-compensated caregivers with an RN Care Manager for each client who conducts initial assessments, builds individualized care plans, and delivers ongoing clinical oversight to both the client and caregiver. Caregivers receive industry-leading wages and benefits, contributing to strong retention and a selective hiring process. The company operates across Virginia and South Carolina, supported by strategic acquisitions to broaden its footprint. Its goal is to provide reliable, person-centered care that enables aging-in-place with professional clinical oversight behind the scenes.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Updated August 2026, Commonwise still markets active Virginia and South Carolina coverage.
  • Charleston and Charlottesville pages updated July-August 2026 signal continuing operational investment.
  • 2025 awards from Mount Pleasant Magazine and HealthLinks strengthen its premium positioning.

What critics are saying

  • Commonwise excludes Medicare and Medicaid, leaving growth tied to private-pay families and insurers.
  • Care Advantage bought First Priority Home Care in May 2026, intensifying South Carolina competition.
  • If wage premiums fail, caregiver shortages kill service quality and the premium brand disappears.

What makes Commonwise Home Care unique

  • Jeffrey Grossman and Amber Best Roberts built RN Care Manager oversight, unlike commodity agencies.
  • Commonwise promises 24/7 phone access and care within 24-48 hours after assessment.
  • It serves private-pay and long-term-care-insurance clients across Virginia and South Carolina locations.
