Requirements
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or three years of relevant work experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, understand mental health assessment, treatment, and service terminology, apply these concepts, implement skills-development strategies, and identify, implement, and coordinate services and supports in an Individualized Service and Support Plan.
  • Basic word-processing skills and ability to complete reports and other documentation electronically.
  • Knowledge of and comfort with cultures of people from other cultures and ability to function cooperatively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse psychiatric outpatient program and in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Registration as a Qualified Mental Health Associate with the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon or QMHA Basic Certification (QMHA-I).
  • Registered candidates must meet Oregon Administrative Rules 309-019-0125 standards for initial qualification for employment in State Approved Mental Health Agencies.
  • QMHA-R candidates must register before employment and become fully certified within two years.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with staff psychiatrists in the Intercultural Psychiatric Program as part of an integrated team to provide comprehensive, holistic, and culturally sensitive mental health care.
  • Work in a dyad with staff psychiatrists to provide trauma-informed language and cultural interpretation, individual and group services, and interventions to Somali-speaking psychiatric outpatients.
  • Provide clinical case management and other clinical support to Somali-speaking patients and potentially other Intercultural Psychiatric Program patients as assigned by the clinical-services director or manager.
  • Provide services assigned by the supervisor in support of the university's teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public-service missions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two to three years of employment or experience in the mental health field as a Bicultural Qualified Mental Health Associate.
  • Experience working with immigrants and refugees in a clinical setting.
  • Experience delivering culturally appropriate interventions.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed treatments.
