Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire (ACLS/NRP/PALS as appropriate for unit or service).
Responsibilities
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates breastfeeding management for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings by utilizing the nursing process.
  • Provides support for patients, proactively suggests strategies for breastfeeding, and addresses patient issues and concerns.
  • Conducts prenatal breastfeeding classes and evaluates educational outcomes.
  • Delivers appropriate education for patient and patient support/family.
  • Provides outpatient care, consultation and home visits for families experiencing breastfeeding difficulties.
  • Acts as clinical expert/resource for staff on subjects related to lactation including the current standards of practice.
  • Facilitates the development of policies which protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
  • Participate in the development of educational programs and assess the educational needs of health care providers.
  • Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
  • May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree of Nursing is preferred
  • IBCLC certification is preferred
  • Two years of recent maternal/child nursing experience is preferred
