Reliance reports $265M Q1 profit, declares $1.25 dividend and guides for 1-3% volume growth

Reliance Inc reported first-quarter 2026 sales of $4.03 billion and net income of $264.9 million, both higher than the previous year. The company declared a $1.25 quarterly dividend and continued share repurchases whilst guiding for a 1% to 3% sequential increase in tons sold in the second quarter, partly reflecting Department of Homeland Security border wall contract activity. The metals distributor's narrative projects $16.5 billion revenue and $1 billion earnings by 2029, with a fair value estimate of $344.38 per share. However, investors face risks from trade policy shifts and tariffs that could drive pricing and margin volatility. Community fair value estimates range widely from $123.06 to $344.38 per share, reflecting uncertainty around the company's ability to convert cyclical metal demand into steady cash generation.

Reliance Steel secures $3B in govt contracts, posts record Q1 shipments despite industry decline

Reliance Steel & Aluminium achieved record first-quarter tonnes sold, driven by strong demand in nonresidential construction, data centres and energy infrastructure, despite broader industry decline. Revenue increased 15% through higher shipments and pricing discipline. The company secured two major government contracts totalling approximately $3 billion, including a Department of Homeland Security border wall project beginning shipments in April 2026 and Joint Strike Fighter support. Management cited operational scale and domestic mill relationships as competitive advantages. Second-quarter guidance assumes demand and pricing remain healthy, though pricing momentum may normalise. However, 50% Section 232 aluminium tariffs pressure gross profit margins, and full-year LIFO expense outlook rose to $150 million from $100 million due to higher product costs. Capital expenditure is projected at $300 million for 2026.

Reliance hits record Q1 shipments, wins $2.2B DHS border wall contract through AMI Metals

Reliance delivered a stronger-than-expected first quarter with record tons sold, up 9.4% sequentially and average selling price up 5.3%. The company converted 15% sales growth into over 30% year-on-year growth in non-GAAP pre-tax income and non-GAAP earnings per share of $5.16. The company won government contracts through AMI Metals, including a $2.2 billion Department of Homeland Security border wall project, with phase one worth approximately $1.4 billion extending through the second quarter of 2027. Shipments began in April. Reliance raised its full-year LIFO outlook to $150 million after first-quarter LIFO expense of $37.5 million. The company guided second-quarter non-GAAP earnings per share of $5.15 to $5.35, whilst planning approximately $300 million in capital expenditure, raising its annual dividend to $5 and continuing share buybacks.

Reliance sees price target raised to $340 as analysts remain optimistic despite margin pressures

Reliance, Inc. has received positive analyst attention, with Wells Fargo raising its price target to $323 from $315 whilst maintaining an Equal Weight rating on 2nd March. Seaport Global also increased its target to $340 from $315, keeping a Buy rating and highlighting the metals distributor's bottom-line growth potential and shareholder returns. The Phoenix-based company reported fiscal fourth quarter revenue of $3.5 billion and full-year revenue of $14.2 billion on 19th February, marking increases of 11.9% and 3.3% respectively. However, JPMorgan cut its rating to Neutral from Overweight and lowered its price target to $330 from $340, citing earnings misses due to margin pressure in the aluminium business. Reliance serves construction, manufacturing, aerospace and electronics industries.
