Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Wind Turbine Technician.
  • Valid driver’s license (NON-CDL or CDL).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, given proper instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving at least one concrete variable in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Capability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, with close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for work in close confines.
  • Physical fitness to climb 300 feet multiple times a day while wearing 25+ pounds of climbing gear and work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capability to rescue teammates anywhere in a tower during an emergency.
  • Employees climbing wind turbines must use a Personal Fall Arrest System and may not exceed the system’s maximum weight capacity of 309 pounds, including the individual, tools, uniform, and personal protective equipment; climbers may not exceed a personal body weight of 260 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and retrofit activities on wind turbine generators.
  • Serve as the in-charge person or temporary team leader for the assigned work team and provide leadership and technical direction.
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships and advanced leadership and management skills.
  • Support mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repairs at a site.
  • Develop strategies to improve maintenance diagnostics and operations, provide additional customer value, and reduce service costs.
  • Generate and complete relevant paperwork, including work order cards, checklists, and AWPs.
  • Recognize wind turbine error codes and appropriately report issues.
  • Direct wind field operations within the assigned contractual scope of responsibilities to customers.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for timely financial reporting, elimination of contractual liquidated damages, and turbine availability.
  • Lead and perform routine preventive and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbines using mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills.
  • Assist with and help lead large corrective teams replacing major turbine components, including generators and gearboxes.
  • Maintain adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Work with internal team members to develop and implement operation-focused feedback for configuration, planned and unplanned maintenance, and financials.
  • Establish and maintain general safety from the system using Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree is a bonus, but not required.
  • Experience with replacing major turbine components such as generators and gearboxes.
