Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, or equivalent substitution of required professional experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • A valid New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Fire Inspector license.
  • Two years of professional experience as a working fire inspector.
  • Ability to maintain on-call availability for fire, weather, or emergency situations and respond to campus for crisis incidents as necessary.
  • Ability to perform essential physical activities including driving, walking long and short distances, standing for extended periods, bending or stooping, lifting or carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to work in environments involving chemicals, heat, noise, odors, dust, smoke, fumes, unusual temperatures, and other unpleasant elements.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective devices, including gloves, eye protection or face shield, dust mask, N95 respiratory protection, hearing protection, and a lab coat or apron.
Responsibilities
  • Protect the health, safety, and welfare of the campus community at the Jersey City location.
  • Ensure fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and compliance with fire-related laws and codes.
  • Provide fire and life safety education and awareness programs.
  • Review campus facilities and buildings to create and manage a built-in fire-safe environment.
  • Prepare faculty, staff, and students to react, evaluate, and choose the correct action during fire or life-safety emergencies.
  • Assist with incident response and emergency situations.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.
  • Travel as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • NJ DCA Fire Subcode license HHS.
  • Experience managing fire safety for a college or university.
