Who We Are
Nuro exists to better everyday life through robotics. Founded in 2016, Nuro has spent eight years developing autonomous driving (AD) technology and commercializing AD applications. The Nuro Driver™ is our world-class autonomous driving system that combines AD hardware with our generalized AI-first self-driving software. Built to learn and improve through data, the Nuro Driver™ is one of the few driverless autonomous technologies on public roads today.
Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Fidelity, Bailie Gifford, T. Rowe Price, Google, and other leading investors. We’ve partnered with some of the world’s most respected brands including Uber, FedEx, Domino’s, Walmart, Kroger, and 7-Eleven.
About the Role
Simulation is at the core of autonomy development. The Simulation team is responsible for building the simulator that powers all simulations at Nuro, allowing us to develop and test our autonomous driving technology with confidence. The team focuses on solving many novel simulation problems with innovative and creative solutions - from synthesizing perception data and automated scenario generation, to performance and resource optimization, to framework and interface design - collaborating with teams across the company to set and expand the range of what’s possible to simulate.
As a technical lead of Simulation, you’ll also define technical strategies and roadmaps, design processes, frameworks and approaches, set architectural direction and evolve systems around it, and mentor team members on design, execution, and engineering excellence. You’ll have the flexibility to guide simulation development broadly, or dive deep into solving the most challenging impactful problems. If you are an experienced technical leader looking to tackle unique challenges instrumental to enabling the development of autonomy, this role would be the perfect fit.
About the Work
- Lead efforts to expand the functionality, performance, usability of our core simulator.
- Lead developments of new innovative solutions to improve simulation realism and coverage through synthesis.
- Guide architectural designs to unify and simplify the interactions of complex systems.
- Define strategies and set direction across a large array of potential efforts, ranging from new greenfield projects to expanding/scaling existing systems.
- Work closely with teams that use simulation, including evaluation/metrics teams, autonomy engineers, and systems engineers.
- Drive extensive collaborations with other teams and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
About You
- You have 5+ years of technical leadership experience in software engineering or related fields.
- You have demonstrated ability to lead engineering groups to navigate complex challenges and deliver highly-effective solutions.
- You care deeply about technical excellence, and have experience maintaining and raising the technical bar for your team.
- You are a hands-on technical leader and mentor for other engineers.
- You enjoy tackling challenges in new problem spaces, solving pivotal problems, and building real solutions to bring your ideas to life.
- You thrive in a highly collaborative environment, working effectively with engineers, PMs, and other stakeholders on project ideas, prioritization, and execution.
- You’re experienced with all stages of a product’s lifecycle. You can effectively take a product from zero to one or scale an existing one up to be relied upon in critical pipelines and workflows.
- You have start-up DNA: You have demonstrated an ability to thrive in the ambiguity of a dynamic start-up environment or have the DNA to do so.
- You are passionate about bettering everyday life through robotics.
Bonus Points
- Previous experience in simulation for autonomous vehicles or other areas of autonomous vehicle development.
