Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED, or 10 years of work experience, is required.
  • For Wisconsin, graduation from a medical assistant school or training program, or equivalent education for certification, is required.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • One accepted medical assistant certification or registration is required, including Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant Certification, Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant credentials.
  • For eligible alternatives, a Wisconsin license is required for emergency medical technicians, paramedics, or licensed practical nurses.
  • The candidate must be able to perform constant standing and walking, frequent communication, hearing, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, gripping, and keyboard/data-entry tasks, and occasional patient lifting and movement.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with provider-ordered treatments under the supervision of a provider or registered nurse and perform selected clinical duties.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs, record information in patient charts, and prepare treatment rooms.
  • Perform clerical duties including answering phones, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.
  • Order and stock supplies and help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
  • Document provider encounters, record diagnoses and symptoms, enter follow-up instructions and prescriptions, and transcribe orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
