Requirements
  • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate, plus one year of human resources related experience; or an associate's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, plus six months of human resources related experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Completion of pre-employment testing.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment law.
  • Knowledge of general office policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits procedures and documentation.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

  • Ability to perform accurate computations and verify data.

  • Ability to complete benefit action requests to achieve the desired outcome for requested action.
  • Attendance at the specified Sheriff's Office work location is required.
  • Depending on assignment, possession of a valid Florida Driver License at time of employment may be required; driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualification.
  • No visible tattoos on the face, head, and neck, and tattoos that detract from the Sheriff's Office's professional appearance must be covered.

  • Successful completion of a background investigation, including criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks, polygraph, medical evaluation, and drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Enter and/or approve employee benefit transactions within automated systems and assist in auditing information across systems and vendor platforms.
  • Conduct employee benefits orientations and assist with the annual open enrollment.
  • Respond to questions concerning the Employee Benefits Section, including employee benefits transactions, and provide information for resolving routine problems.
  • Assist agency and department Human Resources Division and Employee Benefits Section staff in initiating, processing, modifying, or correcting employee benefit transaction information.
  • Prepare routine correspondence, notifications, forms, meeting minutes, and related documents for staff, employees, retirees, and external vendors.
  • Establish and maintain employee benefits files and associated records and systems in compliance with agency, state, and federal laws, including standard operating procedures and HIPAA.
  • Review and audit reports, documents, and forms used by the Employee Benefits Section to identify and eliminate errors.
  • Work within an office environment and at a keyboard or workstation for prolonged periods.
  • Perform light physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects and materials up to 10 pounds.
  • Work standard business hours and, when required, non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Respond promptly to duties and responsibilities assigned during an emergency or disaster.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in Workday or similar human resources information system platforms to process, audit, and maintain benefits-related data.
  • Experience processing human resources documentation such as disability claims, Family and Medical Leave Act absences, and other benefits-related paperwork.
  • Experience administering, researching, and analyzing benefit and compensation programs, including healthcare plans, spending accounts, retirement plans, and life-status changes.
