Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Two years of experience, including at least one year of experience in the specialty area.
  • Must have and maintain Tennessee Physical Therapist Assistant licensure.
  • CPR certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Administer treatment programs, including specialized treatment, under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
  • Adhere to the current American Physical Therapy Association policy defining the role and utilization of the Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Monitor patient progress and make recommendations to the physical therapist in accordance with patient needs and evidence-based practice.
  • Document patient progress in medical records for assigned patients.
  • Provide input for patient care and discharge planning with other health professionals.
  • Meet established targets for passive and active treatment ratios.
  • Involve patients and families in treatment, education, and goal setting.
  • Coordinate with medical personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency in providing age-specific care for the population served.
  • Serve as an ongoing resource for staff.
  • Provide four hours of education or mentorship annually through peer counseling or mentorship, community lectures or volunteering, and in-services or case studies.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in evidence-based practice protocols, clinical outcomes analysis and communication to the team, new policy development, and quality improvement and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain and update patient documentation according to professional, departmental, organizational, and payer guidelines and timeframes.
  • Meet established targets for quality and outcome measures, service and patient satisfaction measures, financial and productivity measures, and growth and patients-per-day measures.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new and existing programs.
  • Participate in training, orientation, and supervision of support staff.
  • Participate in orientation of new licensed staff.
  • Act as a clinical instructor for at least one student per year when available.
  • Participate in peer evaluations for competency assessment.
  • Assist with continuing education courses hosted by Covenant Health.
  • Participate in professional organization meetings, including Tennessee Physical Therapy Association and American Physical Therapy Association meetings.
  • Volunteer for Covenant Health activities such as marathons, golf tournaments, sports physicals, and employee education.
  • Complete partnering activities according to established monthly targets, including physician office visits, community lectures or volunteering, case manager visits or marketing, and in-services.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Complete required annual education assignments.
  • Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Dec. 6, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Each of Covenant Health's nine acute-care hospitals in East Tennessee has earned an 'A' hospital safety grade for Fall 2024 from The Leapfrog Group, marking the second consecutive semester all facilities achieved this top rating. The Leapfrog Group collects and reports data related to safety, quality, and other aspects of hospitals' performance. Twice a year, Leapfrog assigns safety grades based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
