Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center has been named a 2026 Best Hospital for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report, reaffirming its standing as one of the region's leading destinations for labor and delivery services. The High Performing designation is the highest level U.S. News awards in maternity care and reflects strong outcomes and adherence to best practices for parents and newborns. National recognition for high-quality Maternity Care. U.S. News evaluated 899 hospitals across the country for its latest maternity care ratings. Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center (LHAAMC) earned High Performing status based on a range of quality measures that included: * C-section delivery rates * Severe unexpected newborn complication rates * Rates of routine vaginal birth after C-section * Implementation of best practices to support breast milk feeding * Exclusive breast milk feeding rates * Whether the hospital meets new federal "birthing-friendly" criteria * Reporting on outcome disparities * Episiotomy rates "Since arriving at Luminis Health this fall, I have been impressed and inspired by our physicians, nurse midwives, nurses, nurse practitioners, technologists, and the entire care team for their dedication to delivering high-quality maternity care," said Catherine Maloney, Luminis Health's chief operating officer and president of LHAAMC. "It's clear to me that our caregivers don't just provide care, they uplift families and strengthen our entire community." Three decades of care At Clatanoff Pavilion. The national recognition comes as LHAAMC marks the 30th anniversary of the Clatanoff Pavilion, home to the Thomas J. Frank Family Birth Center. Since opening in 1995, the pavilion has cared for generations of families, with approximately 150,000 babies born there over the past three decades. The pavilion's design and services focus on creating a supportive environment for labor, delivery, and postpartum care, with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and family involvement. The anniversary highlights both the longevity of the program and its continued commitment to evidence-based maternity care. Focus on safety, equity, and patient choice. Leaders at Luminis Health say the U.S. News honor reflects not only clinical performance, but also the way teams across the system work together to support patients before, during, and after birth. "We are honored to be recognized among the nation's top-performing maternity hospitals," said Dr. Monica Jones, system chair for Luminis Health Women's and Children's Services. "This achievement speaks to how well our teams work together across the system to provide consistent, reliable care. At the heart of our approach is a deep commitment to patient preferences and shared decision-making. By listening closely to the patients and families we serve and engaging them as partners, we are able to provide culturally customized, respectful maternal care. These elements - safety, reliability, and personalization - come together to drive better outcomes for all." The evaluation criteria used by U.S. News place growing emphasis on equity and transparency, including how hospitals track and address disparities in outcomes. LHAAMC's performance across these measures contributed to its High Performing ranking. Broader recognition for comprehensive care. The maternity care designation adds to a series of recent honors for Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center. The hospital was also named High Performing by U.S. News & World Report in seven specialties for common procedures, including cardiac care, cancer services, and orthopedics. Together, these recognitions underscore LHAAMC's role as a comprehensive health care provider for families in Anne Arundel County and across the region. With more than 120 years of service, the hospital continues to expand its programs while focusing on quality, safety, and patient experience.
