Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
  • Exposed to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research).
  • At least 5 years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Class Rules, and Statutory Regulations (e.g.: SOLAS, ICLL, MCA Large Yacht Code, MARPOL, SPS Code, MODU Code).
  • Working knowledge of engineering software to perform structural and stability calculations.
  • Ability to use independently at least one engineering software to perform structural analysis and/or ship stability calculations.
Responsibilities
  • Offers technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
  • Proposes new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures or designs.
  • Drafts technically accurate and timely reports, and responses.
  • Interacts with clients to identify and resolve problems in the area of technical expertise.
  • Works as a team member within the group, but may work autonomously most of the time.
  • Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
  • Monitors the progress of all assigned projects. Ensures the delivery of high quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
  • Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility. Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary. Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary.
  • Participates in the development and changes of Rules.
  • Prepares written response to clients in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.
  • Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids and other presentation materials.
