Requirements
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Three to ten years of hands-on project experience developing manufacturing processes is required.
  • Experience conducting trade studies to direct business decisions through development campaigns is required.
  • Proficiency in three-dimensional computer-aided design is required, with SOLIDWORKS preferred.
  • Familiarity with welding, fasteners, special processes, and the associated qualifications for different materials and production rates is required.
  • The ability to manage large assembly models and engineering drawings is required.
  • A solid understanding and application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, mechanical engineering fundamentals, and failure modes of complex mechanical systems is required.
  • Prior ownership of a complex manufacturing process and knowledge of introducing a process from scratch into production are required.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability is required.
  • Exposure to production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment, including motion systems, dispense systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors, injection molders, and die casters, is required.
  • Availability to work extended hours and weekends as needed is required.
  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
Responsibilities
  • Design hardware and develop manufacturing processes to enable low-cost, high-reliability systems.
  • Own the bring-up of internal manufacturing processes, including welding, fastening, adhesives, coatings, heat treatments, and assembly.
  • Establish company standards for controlling manufacturing processes in production and define the associated test requirements needed to ensure product life expectancy.
  • Co-develop product requirements to guide capital-expenditure decisions and make-versus-buy strategies.
  • Create detailed models and engineering drawings in SOLIDWORKS.
  • Conduct testing and iteration cycles to ensure reliability and robust performance across environments and operational scenarios.
  • Continuously develop manufacturing processes to achieve high-rate, high-yield, dependable production.
  • Establish and manage the product lifecycle from supply-chain sourcing through final assembly and integration, balancing cost efficiency, production complexity, and quality standards, and coordinate with partner teams to develop and operate an optimized in-house manufacturing line.

Singularity Defense designs and manufactures affordable, scalable air defense systems. It focuses on ground-launched missile interceptors and handles in-house design, development, and production of all subsystems, using commercial components and an automotive-style assembly process to enable rapid, high-volume manufacturing. The interceptors are designed to detect, track, and intercept incoming drones and missiles to protect military assets and personnel. The company differentiates itself by tightly controlling subsystems, avoiding traditional defense supply chain bottlenecks, and scaling production quickly through a repeatable manufacturing line, backed by frequent flight tests. Its goal is to provide capable, cost-effective defense against inexpensive aerial threats and to secure U.S. government contracts and funding for broader defense adoption.

What believers are saying

  • $80 million Series A at a $400 million valuation funds rapid scale-up.
  • Multiple monthly flight tests support faster hardware and software iteration.
  • Experienced SpaceX, Tesla, Anduril, and Lockheed Martin alumni strengthen execution and credibility.

What critics are saying

  • Anduril and traditional primes can outcompete Singularity for early defense contracts.
  • Defining production claims face scrutiny until the company ships operational volume.
  • Integration, certification, and procurement cycles can delay revenue for years.

What makes Singularity Defense unique

  • Automotive-style assembly targets higher interceptor output than traditional defense lines.
  • In-house subsystems and commercial parts reduce supplier bottlenecks.
  • Ground-launched missile interceptors are designed for existing U.S. military systems.
