Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience planning and directing activities for elderly residents and planning and organizing special programs for residents, families, and staff.
  • Good verbal communication skills, including the ability to give directions to others in a pleasant and easily understood manner.
  • Ability to display enthusiasm and a positive attitude when promoting activities and enlisting facility team members’ support for activity programming.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a safe driving record in accordance with company policy.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and implement resident lifestyle programming within the community and through outside trips and events.
  • Survey and interview residents to determine their past and present interests and talents and their satisfaction with community programs and activities.
  • Recognize residents’ individuality, diversity, and spirituality when planning activities and celebrating holiday functions.
  • Develop relationships with residents to encourage participation in activities that enhance their quality of and appreciation for life.
  • Observe residents’ function and behavior and report significant changes or concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Perform work tasks in a manner that preserves each resident’s dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Utilize outside community resources and independent contractors to enrich the variety of programs available to residents.
  • Develop and manage the annual department budget.
  • Document and maintain records required to effectively manage the department.
  • Secure and maintain department supplies and equipment.
  • Develop and distribute the resident newsletter, calendar, and other lifestyle-programming communications regularly and monthly.
  • Work with the Assisted Living department manager to plan daily activities for Assisted Living residents when applicable.
  • Coordinate outings and the weekly transportation schedule with the transportation department.
  • Transport residents, perform assigned community errands, ensure residents using transportation return safely to the building, and assist residents in and out of the vehicle.
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, hire, train, discipline, and terminate departmental employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to plan shared events.
  • Coordinate volunteers, including their recruitment and training.
  • Maintain an inviting, functional, and organized program area, including appropriate seasonal decoration of display areas.
  • Oversee the Transportation Department.
  • Ensure corporate transportation policies are followed.
  • Carry out responsibilities to residents, families, and coworkers in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
