Parrish & Heimbecker has entered into a consent agreement with Canada's Competition Bureau regarding its proposed acquisition of grain handling assets, though the company disputes the regulator's competitive analysis. The Canadian agri-business emphasised the agreement does not reflect acceptance of the Commissioner's conclusions about competitive effects in Reford, Saskatchewan. Instead, PH said the decision was pragmatic, aimed at avoiding regulatory delays rather than agreeing with the Bureau's assessment. PH referenced the Competition Tribunal's 2022 Virden, Manitoba decision, which rejected the Commissioner's market definitions and found no substantial lessening of competition. The company maintains that competitive dynamics in Reford align with principles established in that ruling.
